Slipped under people's doors or found in their mailboxes (depending where they live) is now a personalized, handwritten party invitation, written on a piece of paper looking about a quarter of the size of a usual 8.5 x 11 inch sheet and bordering with ink drawings of small gnome-like people bearing balloons. Everything is done just carefully enough that while there ought to be something kitschy about all of it, things really do look quite forgivably cute.
[Name]!
You are invited by one Ron Tolkien to a celebration of his eighteenth birthday.
It is a
PARTY OF SPECIAL MAGNIFICENCE,
that is it will be, if you attend.
Held in the MacArthur Common Room
on Wednesday the Third of January, 2006,
commencing at nine o' clock in the evening,
but arrive when you can!
Refreshments served, film TBA, presents certainly not a requirement.
Invitees may or may not note that while there is no BYOB announcement, poor Ron has clearly neglected to say anything about doing the reverse.
