This is the version of XP x64 I have: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4945775/Superior_Windows_XP_x64_Edition_%2864_bit%29_revival_6_2009

About 2 weeks ago I was starting to have major issues with my computer - mostly that it would lag and crash and seemingly random times, and usually whenever I would open a web browser (firefox, chrome, and IE would all do it). Running just WoW and Vent would leave me stable. I was also getting "bad block" errors in my event logs, but not coinciding with the crashes. So I looked into reformatting.

This is the version of Windows 7 I have: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5291646/Windows_7_All_Editions_-_Activated_x32x64_January_2010%5B_kk_%5D

I attempted to install Windows 7 multiple times. I kept getting stuck at "Completing Installation". The one time it worked, I got all the way in and set up my profile. Then it got stuck at creating security settings or something like that. When I restarted, it said the install was corrupted and needed to be redone. I ended up installing XP x64 again. However a couple days after my install, this happened:
My computer took a shit after I installed leatrix and restarted. I get a kernel data inpage error every time I try to load. Tried safe mode and last know good configuration, no dice.
#1 Attempted install of W7: Stuck at "Completing Installation". Shift-F10 for CMD window, entered "explorer.exe", got an I/O error. On reboot, I got a BOOTMGR error. Reference: http://www.danantonielli.com/2009/05/20/windows-7-installation-hangs-at-completing-installation-fix/ lazuline's comment

#2 Attempted install of W7: Removed my video card that has only a HDMI connector and plugged my monitor into my moboard with onboard video card using VGA. Reference: http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-installation-upgrade/1664-doesnt-complete-installation.html 2nd and 9th posts. Same exact problem as #1. Attempted to follow this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/itprovistasetup/thread/e6e2399c-746a-4d45-8b77-dc6e89fd9409 2nd post, method 6 confirmed to work, but had same error on restart. Method 7 also confirmed to work, but still same error.

I will update this as I proceed. Right now I'm attempting to get WoW up to date on my old computer. As some of you remember, it's best for all of us that I don't raid on it.

# 3 Attempted reinstall, again without video card. Got stuck on "Setup is updating registry settings". Restarted, selected start normally. Got stuck on starting windows. Started in safe mode, still got stuck.

#4 Attempted reinstall without video card. Removed USB devices (keyboard and mouse) when install started. Install was successful. Crashed while installing network driver, but was able to restart without problems, and installed sound, network, monitor, and headset drivers. Restart appeared to be stable. Connected internet and headset and restarted. Reconnected video card and restarted. Downloaded and installed driver for video card.

Hopefully this means I have a stable copy now. I'll update later when I start to install my shit.

I've been having nightmares recently. A lot more often than usual. I wonder what that means.
