Watchmen

Mar 13, 2009 00:04

So I watched Watchmen last night. Pretty spontaneously too.

I was gonna watch it maybe in the coming days, so I was rolling around in bed at 8.50pm texting with my cousin, whom I had planned to watch with, and we discovered that there's gonna be some schedule problem since the times that he could go, I couldn't, and vice versa.

How about now? He asked. Wth? Checked the schedules, next showing is 9.15pm at The Grand Cathay at Handy Road right next to where totoro79 lives.

But what about tickets, I said. No worries, he said. More people are rushing to see My Bloody Valentine than Watchmen.

Wow. Really? Apparently so. I was queueing at the ticket box at 9.10pm (gotta love Singapore for being able to accomodate spontaneous decisions--this sort of things are virtually impossible to pull off in Jakarta, unless of course, you have taken up residence right above a mall that has a cinema like me!) and the light for Watchmen was still green (which means, still A LOT available) while a 9:30pm screening for My Bloody Valentine was blinking yellow (which means, GOING FAST!)

Should I be happy coz it's a Jensen Ackles movie? I've made a date to watch it tomorrow with totoro79 too <3 Yay Jensen Ackles!

One thing for sure, Watchmen is visually stunning for me but in an entirely different way than 300. Watchmen is definitely not as saturated in post-pro as 300 was, since they did shoot at a real soundstage with sets instead of just a blue screen.

It's definitely heavy. Just like the graphic novel. The movie pretty much flew right out of the graphic novel's pages. I've read at least half of it (couldn't finish it in time) to see all the scenes from the graphic novel in motion in front of my eyes at the big screen. If some hardcore fans are complaining that certain so and so bit were omitted from the movie, hey, give Zack Snyder a break. Obviously he would want to include every single bit into the movie including everything from Tales of the Black Freighter and Under The Hood, but then we'd be stuck in a movie theater for like... 6 hours? Eek.

Kids definitely won't understand this, and because they don't understand a single thing about it they'll probably say the movie sucks. And I don't wanna be the one having to EXPLAIN what was going on in the whole movie. Nuh-uh.

IT'S VIOLENT. Like totoro79 said, yeah, if you can't handle 300, forget Watchmen, seriously. It's the same level of blood and gore (if not more) That back alley fight scene where Laurie and Dan encountered a band of thugs, somehow reading it in the graphic novel, I didn't imagine it AS BLOODY AND GORILY GRAPHIC as it did in the movie. Limbs snapping backwards and blood gushing out like that. Ick. And that part where Rorschach killed off that child killer, and the prison scenes. Eeks. The part where Dr.Manhattan blasted off an entire table of people into puddles of blood and goo wasn't pretty either @_@#

I LOVE THE COMEDIAN. He is so badass and JDM played him so damn well! Even as The Comedian got older he becomes even more kickass! I don't know why I really like his character (maybe the John Winchester factor has a lot to do with it) considering he is 110% PURE ASSHOLE.

But I'm also seriously infatuated with Nite Owl II. Only when he's in costume though. Coz Dan Dreiberg is a dweeb with receding hair and has premature ejaculations. LOL. I don't know what it is about the Nite Owl in costume though, maybe because he's pretty similar to Batman in terms of costume characteristics---the pointy ears, the mask, the cape. But everytime Nite Owl comes around I think my heart skipped a beat. And the Nite Owl - Silk Spectre crimefighting scenes were freakin' awesome!!!

So when they had that one flashback of Nite Owl + Comedian combo fighting off riots. OOH LA LA. I would actually watch the whole 2 hrs 30+ mins all over again just for that scene.

Rorschach is even more badass than The Comedian, but that's pretty much because he's PSYCHOTIC. He's already scary behind the mask, but once the mask came off, OH GOD. Makes The Joker look a little cotton candy-ish.

I pretty much have nothing much to say about Dr.Manhattan coz I'm not really interested in him. Sure, every other Watchmen reader worships him as GOD, but he annoys me. And his radioactive blue junk is so distracting, it's annoying!!! His story is really sad though. But anyway, I'm not gonna get into that now coz it's late and I wanna go to sleep.

Overall, I like this movie. People who say they didn't like the movie probably didn't like the book either? I dunno. I love their use of music in the movie too. Some of them were so made for the scene I laughed like hell when they came on. This movie is damn entertaining for me. It's like a giant blood+gore+nuclear+blue penis music video clip. And like I said, I would go rewatch it just to see Nite Owl + The Comedian in action again.

Still no news of Indonesia release. The situation seems pretty dire right now. Don't know how true it is, but apparently there is a problem between the Trade Ministry and the MPA, and right now all movie prints are being withheld by the MPA until the problem is resolved? Eep. I hope things get resolved quickly. Dragonball Evolution is postponed too, not that I care about this one. But anyway, back to Indonesia release---I just hope stupid parents don't just take one look at the movie poster and go: Ooh, superhero movie! Let's bring the little kids for a family outing!

Oh, and I really like the Nite Owl's aircraft. So cool :D And it cracks me up that he has a winter costume XD

And I want The Comedian's pin.

...and I really need to sleep. It's 1 AM here. Thud.

indonesia sucks, movies
