Школа порадовала.
Показали детям документалку про дискриминацию, а там - о ужас! - произносится N word.
Виновные, разумеется, строго наказаны. Письмо родителям и извинениями и предложениями психологической помощи всем травмированным:
Dear Families of ... Students,
I am writing to inform you of an incident that occurred during your child’s English class today. As part of a discussion about discrimination, students viewed parts of the PBS documentary,
A Class Divided. In this documentary, Jane Elliott talks to her third grade class about the impact of discrimination and the effects it has on their lives. In the documentary, the “N” word was used by a student in the video to describe African Americans.
In response to this incident, I have spoken with the pods involved regarding the use of hateful language and the responsibility that we all bear to address it. I have instructed the teacher to immediately discontinue the use of this video for instructional purposes. Counselors will be available to students throughout the school day for anyone who would like to discuss this incident and the ways in which it impacted them. Should your child raise questions or concerns this weekend, please let your child’s counselor or me know so that we are able to follow up with them on Monday.
We would like to reaffirm our commitment to supporting all students and cultivating an equitable, affirming, and culturally responsive learning environment for everyone. As a district, we will continue to engage in important conversations about the impact of hateful language, past and present, and the courage it takes to affect change within our community.
