Totally uncalled for

I'm am going to attempt to make this short and sweet, but forgive me if I go off on a tangent...

The day is going swimmingly, nothing out of the ordinary. Just your throngs of scantily-clad teenagers wearing wife beaters, short-shorts, and obnoxious sunglasses. So there's a barista on the register, another on bar, and then there's me floating.
So all of a sudden, this freak walks in the door. I say freak because it was in the mid 90's and humid, and the freak was wearing about 5 layers, the topmost of which, was a long-sleeved tie-dyed shirt. He walks up to the register and starts speaking Spanish. *eyeroll*
He's talking to my register barista in Spanish and then all of a sudden he looks at me, to which I replied, "Don't look at me, I don't speak Spanish. But maybe if you tried French...?"
So he starts rambling in French. I only understood the first sentence because he was completely butchering the language. ANYWAYS.....
He looks at me and says, "Did you understand that? Did you understand that? No, you probably didn't! That's okay, though, I'll give you 5 minutes and then I'll come back. Do you think you can learn French in 5 minutes?"
So I'm done listening to this asshole, and I direct my attention to something else. He mumbles something to me that I didn't hear, and walks away. In the meantime, my partners have looks of awe on their faces and are sitting there speechless. So by now, I know whatever he said to me, was clearly of an offensive nature. Fantastic....
So I ask them what he said, and it was basically something along these lines: "You look like you belong in Ferndale. It looks like you would be happy there!"
Ferndale is a suburb of Detroit notorious for it's gay and lesbian population. It would be helpful to mention here that I am straight. So because I didnt hear him make the comment directly to me, (even though my partners and other customers did), I decided to just let it go. Eventually he goes outside and starts harassing customers. Customers that were already sitting on the patio were coming in the store to complain, as well as customers that had just walked into the store.
So what did I do? I called the cops!
Long story short, they came up and talked to him. I told them the situation and told them that he wasn't welcome at our store anymore. So they tell him to leave and not come back. They also told me that if he does come back, to call 9-1-1 and they will come take him to jail.
What a day!
