Title:  Law Of The Land
Characters:  Evgeni Malkin / Alex Ovechkin
Summary:  When they get together again...
Rating:  R
Disclaimer:  Believe me, I don't want to own them

They were never really actual friends.

Evgeni and Alex had always been friends with issues, competitors and rivals.  That’s just how it is in Russia.  That’s just how it is between them.

It’s a mutual disliking, a mutual rivalry.  In the daytime of course.

But at night it’s a different story altogether.

Alex turns the lights down low when Evgeni stands up in front of him.

He holds Evgeni down by the back of his neck, not caring that he’s probably bruising the skin, probably putting finger marks deep in his skin.

The roles always change.

Two nights later, Evgeni pushes Alex onto the mattress unceremoniously with a sneer on his lips.  This is what they both want.

They’re competitive deep down, in their bones and in their actions.  Alex gets the upper hand and Evgeni punches him in the chest, knocks the wind out of him.  And he’s on top.

It’s always rough.

One of them has a bloody lip.  The other has the makings of a black eye.  There are bruised knuckles and bruised thighs, a soon-to-be fading memory of a night together.

But Alex grins wildly at Evgeni and it’s amazing.  Fucking amazing.

When they were just teenagers, they liked each other.  Alex was happy to befriend the shy Evgeni, they got along famously.

Maybe even a little too famously.  They would sneak away together, find the places in the dark where no one could see them.  And it was perfect.

But then Evgeni started to get better than Alex.  He was faster, more elusive, smarter.  And it pissed Alex off.

Everything was good when Evgeni was just Evgeni, not the Next Best Thing.

Much was made of their fallout but no one knew the truth.  No one knew what happened behind the scenes.  And they didn’t have to know, it was between Alex and Evgeni.

Now when they meet, Alex is always nice to him.  In front of the media sharks.

Behind closed doors, fists and angry words are the law of the land.

They wouldn’t want it any other way.
