Buzzy and Jitters were rudely escorted from the courtroom and hauled away to San Onofre Maximum Security Animal Prison and Nuclear Power Plant. The red light on the men's prison dome blinked goodbye to them as they vanished inside the windowless interior. They were assigned their prison clothes, handed soft-bristle toothbrushes, guided past the reactor core, and locked into their barred cell.
"Wow, what a great adventure we're having!" Buzzy beamed, "It's just like those prison movies on TBS, except even more depressing." Jitters sighed and scampered up to the top bunk, hoping that the mattress would muffle Mr. Buzzy's snoring a little bit. "Prisons aren't adventures sir, they're places where the government tries to bore you to death. And if you ever do get out, you can't cope with excitement anymore, so you try to get them to send you back." He sounded like he'd been in a situation like this before, but that possibility soared over Buzzy's head.
The grunts and sneers from the fellow inmates, and the possibility of decades locked in the same room, hadn't dampened Buzzy's spirits yet. He waved down the skunk pushing the food cart and managed to get the last bologna sandwich with a slice of rubbery cheese. He chomped down on it like it was a gourmet meal. "Mmmfff, tashty, remindsh me of shpam." He twirled around, trying to see how he looked in his prison duds. "Hey Jitters, do these horizontal stripes make me look fat?"
Jitters gazed down, perplexed. Mr. Buzzy has been so bizarre this past week, so effeminate. Yes, that was mostly it, he was acting like a girl, like... Oh no...
He looked down at Mr. Buzzy's head, "Miss Feloni? Is that you in there?" Buzzy swallowed, cheered, and waved his index fingers at Jitters, "Yay, you figured it out, I'm so proud! I didn't want to ruin the surprise for you." Jitters blinked for a bit, then his eyes sagged and he started nibbling his claws. "You could have told me before I took you to the psychiatrist, you know. Then we wouldn't have been arrested and locked up in here forever." "Aww, but that wouldn't have been any fun at all", Buzzy replied, "We wouldn't have had any of our fun adventures, and I would have never known how goofy Buzzy looks in stripey pajamas. Besides, any day now, Mr. Buzzy's brain will be back where it belongs, and I'm sure he'll be able to get a change of scenery for you. Maybe the judges will delcare you both insane and send you to a nice hospital with yummy pink pills and padded walls."
Jitters heaved another sigh; this one strained his muscles. He'd learned how to cope with crazy, but only stable crazy. Ever-changing crazy was beyond his capabilities. He kept his mind occupied trying to dream up a better way of escaping.
