This is the holiday drabblet (more than a drabble yet not quite a ficlet) I wrote for
sonadorita. I didn't intend to post these, but Dorie gave her permission and that gives me another opportunity to rec her fic
They Say He Was On The Moon, which my drabblet follows. It's a fabulous McShep AU piece and I do hope she writes more in this verse very soon. It's necessary to read that one first, but you won't be sorry. Then my little follow up will make sense.
title: Treading the Gulf Between Famous and Infamous
pairing: John/Rodney - AU
rating: G
words: 168
legal: obviously they don't belong to me
For weeks after the launch, Rodney tried to avoid everyone in Matlock, with the exception of John. It wasn't easy either. Most of the townsfolk considered both him and John to be some kind of heroes and it made Rodney feel extremely uncomfortable when Ol' Ronnie insisted on buying them beer every time they were in Caddie's Pub.
He'd throw his trunk-like arms around both of their shoulders and tell Caddie their money was no good. Then Ronnie and Nad would pepper them with questions about how Matlock would be remembered or if anyone from the T.V. would come to town, or if they thought Ronnie would be a good choice for an interview.
Rodney would exchange a nervous glance with John, a knowing glance, their eyes conspiratorial and sad. Then Rodney would smile and say sure, that Ronnie was a natural.
And afterward, as they lay sweaty and sated in Rodney's bed, John would always forgive him, granting him absolution with soft kisses.
