Sign ups for this year's mcshep_match are today at 10:00 PM (GMT) What time is that?

So, Team Work…

(the following will seem more in context after reading this)

Honing our chess and model making skills. Piano and cello lessons… do you honestly think of that as leisure? Criminy, no one gets to Julliard by phoning it in - tone deaf, know-it-all, soul-crushing piano teachers notwithstanding. My current hobby is rocket building.

Yes, some of us do make the effort to try and make things nice for the Prom. A lot of good it does when the "party" crowd arrives pre-loaded and has the banners and photography backdrop trashed in record time.

Personally, I find more practical uses for my time. I work as a student aide for several teachers and proudly do my duty as the Hall Monitor for D-Wing - that's the Math and Sciences building in case you were wondering, and even if you weren't. Keeping the hallways safe and orderly is serious business. Class change can be absolute chaos if not handled properly. And you can't let repeat offenders wear you down… like that new kid, the tall one who always looks like he just fell out of bed, the one who keeps bouncing that damn basketball in the hall.

Naturally, my job as Hall Monitor puts me in direct contact with the Principal's office - in a way that doesn't have a negative effect on my permanent record. I'm always ready with a compliment for the secretary and the volunteer workers. Hey, it doesn't hurt to develop your networking skills early… you never know when contacts can come in handy. Like now. I've just received a juicy bit of information regarding Ms. Everson's final exam… fifteen pages, huh?

Hmmm, that tall kid's still waiting. And he keeps staring at me. Probably thinking up ways to practice hook shots over the door frames. Well, now he's smiling. That's… kind of nice actually… the way he's looking from beneath that hair hanging down in his eyes. He's probably just figured out nine different ways to make my job even tougher.

Oh, he's talking to me… in that soft, aw shucks drawl he uses with the cool kids… like I'm no different. Well, I don't buy it. Ha! It'll take more than a smile and an invitation to the next basketball game to get me to look the other way.

He's still watching me through the glass as I leave and head for my Chemistry lab. There's something oddly familiar about him - and not just because I've written him up eight times this week alone. Oh my god, is he… that's the kid who just moved in next door!
