That's true, she does do a lot beyond just fighting crime. The problem is that the scope of that is almost all stuff that gets handled really badly in mainstream media anyway. If she stuck to mostly just fighting crime, I'd honestly be okay with that just to avoid the pain of watching them fuck up other stuff. And, I mean, I say "fighting crime" in the "goes on comic book super hero adventures" sense, so crime is a very, uh...broad term here. Sometimes crime might be sea monsters.
And in regards to the write-up - it took a while. I have to work through my initial reaction of WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH and then come up with something coherent.
Also, I gotta agree, men in general are terribly insecure because masculinity is based around achievable ideals (unlike women, where the feminine ideal is just more or less out of the reach of anyone who wants to actually live any kind of a normal, productive life) but incredibly narrow and restrictive ones. And, I mean, that's kind of one of the points of feminism (for me at least) that the patriarchal power structure /hurts men too/. They just come out with the most bonuses in the end and of course the whole system is set up to be self-sustaining so they're encouraged to take the bonuses and run, without considering what they're giving up. Or at least that's how it seems to me from the lady side of the force.
Usually I define crime as in hoodlums, bank robberies, pick pockets, hence why I keep going 'uhh.huh' when WW and crime fighting keeps coming up. When I first heard of the project I thought Diana was going to be running a Woman's Shelter or a charity organization. I mean that made sense right? Though their thoughts apparently didn't flow that way.
Next time, I should remember to control my rage before typing in a post instead of splaying it all over the screen.
I think there is a lot of truth to what you say here, especially given my own experiences where I have been thought of as being lesser because I did not fit into the stereotypical idea of man-liness. Restrictive is probably the best word for it given the number of people who would forsake 'vulnerability' just to look cool.
