Oh god, it's just all TMI, all the time over here recently, isn't it? Maybe I should choose my topics a little more wisely, now that there are people on the flist who I actually have to be able to look in the eye afterwards. *g*
(Or maybe not. t_eyla was actually sitting next to me and snickering a lot while I answered comments on the sperm post (and blushing a really interesting shade of red, I'm sure - me, that is, not her), and it's not like the fact that I talk about sex on the internet a lot comes as a surprise to anyone at this point. Sex scenes are always over the top, and even in M/M sex, I often can't suspend disbelief at how overwhelmingly perfect they are described
Strangely enough, with M/M scenes, I usually have no problem suspending disbelief even if I do know better. It's just not as closely related to my own experience, I guess, so the disbelief isn't as immediate and personal.
I really do like het, usually, but as you said, the rarity of interesting characters is the main problem.
And the most interesting female characters are all in fandoms where the canon satisfies me so much I don't even want fanfic. I mean, I love Rose and Aeryn, but canon is totally enough for me with those two.
