I keep thinking, I haven't posted in so long, I should post some sort of interesting and comprehensive summary of what happened since my last post, and then the pressure gets too much and I don't post at all. So maybe I need to stop putting this much pressure on myself to Get It Right and just Post Something, Anything instead.
I moved to England! I now live in Tiny Town 50 minutes outside of London, which has been working out quite well. (The proximity to London, that is. Tiny Town is about as boring as it's physically possible for a town to be.)
I'm trying to take as much advantage of London's entertainment options as possible while I'm here. Went to see the Kinky Boots musical on the 10th, which was everything I wanted it to be. I was incredibly charmed by the premise the first time I heard of it (Owner of Highly Traditional shoe factory starts making boots for drag queens because a) no one's buying traditional leather brogues anymore and b) the terrible quality of existing drag queen boot options offends his craftsman's soul), and then was deeply disappointed by the movie, which is far more glum than a movie with that premise has any right to be. The musical on the other hand, is every bit the fun, cheerful, touching, sincere glitterfest I wanted.
Yesterday I went to the monthly
Captain Awkward London Meet-up. Came in, found a group of women having a discussion that segued rapidly from feminism to the Master and Commander books to Steve/Bucky fanfic, and knew I was among my people. A+++, would meet up again.
I've also seen Moana, Star Wars: Rogue One and Fantastic Beasts, all within the past week. Loved Moana with all my heart, enjoyed Rogue One. Fantastic Beasts was worth the price of admission for the creatures, who are wonderful, and Newt's kindness, love, and endless curiosity towards them, which was lovely to watch. Had major issues with everything else about the movie, its characters and its plot. I really enjoyed
this AU, in which Newt recognizes the obscurial on sight and ends up adopting all the Barebone children.
What have you been up to, flist? You should come talk to me about Moana, Rogue One, Fantastic Beasts, or how fucking good Witcher 3 is.
