- Alllll the tropes dealing with lack of control: Sexpollen. Truth drugs. Mobsters-made-them-do-it. These guys are all about being in control of themselves at all times, and so I just desperately want to see them in scenarios where they lose that control, and then see how they cope with it, after. (Badly. SO BADLY.)
- Forced intimacy! Huddling for warmth! Forced to share a bed - okay, no, that doesn't even work, because Reese would sleep on the floor. An icy cold concrete floor, if necessary. Or possibly just keep watch all night, sitting up against the headboard on the very edge of the bed, so Finch has room to sprawl out if he needs it.
- The one where Reese never left the CIA, and so Finch has to deal with the numbers on his own, by throwing money and private security and hacking skills at their problems. In this one, they'd both be a little harder and colder and more fucked up, Reese from years of horrible soul-sucking kill-someone-for-no-good-reason jobs, and Finch from years of dealing with failure and betrayal by the people he's forced to work with, and his best not being good enough to safe everyone that needs saving.
And then the CIA finds out about Finch/the machine, and they want access to it, so - actually, I want this one in a couple of different variations: the one where Reese is sent to seduce Finch to gain his trust and get his secrets that way (unsurprisingly, this works out VERY BADLY); the one where he's sent to capture and torture Finch, but in the course of spying on him, he realizes that, while he's not entirely sure what the hell Finch is doing, he's a good guy, he's helping people, and he can't bring himself to hurt him; and of course either version ends with them teaming up and kicking the CIA's ass.
- The one where Finch didn't find Reese and instead tries to deal with a number on his own, and gets caught, you know, stalking, surveilling, standing red-handed over the body of some poor murder victim he was too late to save, something like that. And so of course there are no expensive lawyers to save Reese when he punches those guys in the subway, either, and the two of them meet by way of sharing the same prison cell. And then of course Reese has to protect Finch, but he also thinks Finch is a stalker and a murderer, and then misunderstandings and h/c!
(I recently read halfway through the first of the Jack Reacher novels and got to the point where he gets thrown into jail with some poor nerdy guy he has to save from prison rape, and then I had to put the book aside and spend the rest of the day dreaming about how much more I'd enjoy that novel if it would magically turn into a nice classic h/c fic about those two guys falling in love in prison. But no, it continued being a dudely book about some dude who's too cool to give a shit about other people, and I've been craving h/c prisonfic ever since. Um, any recs, anyone?)
- The wacky
Call Me Maybe cover that
liviapenn recently linked. You'd probably have to do some additional sound-editing magic, but come on, it would be perfect.
This one gets an extra cut, because mild spoilers:
- Mumford and Son's
Broken Crown, about Reese slowly tempting Carter over onto the dark side. (Well, okay, the sort-of-dark side of helping people and kneecapping people and breaking the law and lying to people who trust her.)
But in this twilight, our choices seal our fate.
