Today I came home and found my diabetic cat sitting in the garden, unmoving, barely responding to me. When I tried to pick her up, she growled at me, which she usually never does. It wasn't as bad as the last time she had a hypoglycemic crisis, where she went completely insane and non-responsive, but it still scared the shit out of me. Her blood sugar was too high instead of too low when I checked her, though, and not high enough to be causing erratic behavior, either.
The vet told me on the phone that there's not really much they can do for her right now if this is diabetes-related, apart from monitoring her, which I can do at home. I decided I was giving it another hour, and if she hadn't improved by then, I was taking her to the clinic. It's been a few hours now, and she seems better, although not completely normal yet, so I'm keeping her here for now.
Most likely, she had a hypoglycemic crisis while I was gone, which she's still recovering from, and her blood sugar went up as a reaction to the stress. If that's the case, she she should be fine soon. It's eleven pm now, and I was really looking forward to going to bed early tonight, because I got very little sleep last night, but I guess that's not happening now. I'll stay up with her for a little while longer, and then set an alarm to check on her every two hours or so. Fuck, this is scary. :(
