Chapter 5

The morning sun light was peeking through the curtain of Kazuya’s bedroom. Normally, Kazuya would wake up with a smile plastered on his face whenever the sun rays crept into his room, but today was different. Kazuya just lay down on his bed, staring at the ceiling with empty eyes. He didn’t get any sleep at all last night; or rather he didn’t want to get any sleep. He did try to sleep, it was just when he closed his eyes, trying to make himself fall into a deep slumber, the memories of couples of hands roaming over his body, the laughter and perverted smirks that humiliated him and more of all, Kataoka senpai’s words ringing back into his mind and turned into a nightmare. He couldn’t get rid of the memories in his mind. He was too scared to sleep, so he was just lying there, stared into empty spaces and forced himself to think about anything else.

The result of not getting any sleep was clearly visible on his face. The bag under his eyes couldn’t be more visible, and the trace of tears still plastered on his pretty face. He knew that he wouldn’t go to campus today so he didn’t bother to try to clean himself and get ready for the classes like he usually did. Nevertheless, he got up from his bad, walking towards the window to open it. He was blinded by the sun and he covered his eyes with his hands before moved aside quickly. He was about to go to the bathroom when he heard the ringing bell from his front door. He was kind of afraid that it might be Kataoka senpai, but he just remembered that he didn’t know his address. Slowly, he walked to the front door and opened it. He found no one standing in front of his door. He poked his head out to see if someone just played prank on him or something when he realized that there was a white lily with a card left in front of his door. He bent his body down to pick the lily up and checked it out.

It was a lovely flower. He opened the card and read the message.

Dear Kazuya,

I’m sorry for my bluntness yesterday. It seems that I made you sad, although I don’t know why.  So, please, forgive me. I want to give you a purple hyacinth actually. The lady from the flower shop said that purple hyacinth means “I’m sorry”. But then she said she doesn’t have it on her store. Why would she tell me that if she doesn’t have it in the first place?! Then I saw this white lily. She said something about virginity and purity, and I thought it would be perfect for you, because you’re pure. Do I sound cheesy just now? Well, I’m not good with words. I hope you understand what I mean. So, forgive me please?

P.S.: I don’t know why you think that I’m the same as that Kataoka guy you mentioned, but I’ll prove to you that I am not!

P.S.S: Oh, and keep smiling! I love your smile!

Love,

Jin

Kazuya was smiling when he read the message. He could feel Jin’s silliness through this card. But his heart clenched when he read the virginity word. He knew perfectly that he wasn’t virgin or pure. Not anymore. His shoulder slumped when the memories hit him again. Jin’s card was distracting him a bit and he almost forgot about it. But then the reality was shoved into his face again. He knew he had to live with this feeling for his entire life.

He took a glance at the card once again and realized the word ‘love’ above Jin’s signature.

Why did he scratch it?

Jin walked into the class room and looked around. Once he found who he had been looking for, he approached him. Koki was chatting and laughing with Maru in the corner of the class. He realized Jin was walking towards them and he waved his hand.

“Hey man!” Koki greeted.

“Koki, have you contacted that friend of yours?” Jin asked right away, ignoring the latter’s greeting.

“Huh? Who?” Koki looked dumbfounded at the question.

“Your friend who attended the same high school with Kamenashi! I asked you to contact him last night, remember?!” Jin explained animatedly.

“Ah! yes, yes! Well, he said to come to his place when you want to meet him,” Koki shrugged his shoulder.

“Good! Now come with me and take me to his place,” Jin demanded.

“Eh, now? But we have class in… errr…… ten minutes!” Koki checked his watch.

“Just skip it! Come on!”

Before Koki could voice any more protest, he was already dragged away. Maru just waved his hand to his friend with an amused smile.

Kazuya woke up the next day with sweats dripping from his forehead. His eyes looked bewildered and he was panting as if he had been running with all of his might. He kept having nightmare of his unwanted memories. He sat up on the bed and buried his head into his hands and knees. The sun didn’t even rise and it was just 5 o’clock in the morning. He clutched on his body, trying to make a protection for himself although he knew that it was futile.

A low bark was heard from his foot. Kazuya looked up to see his beloved dog looking at him with a concerned look in her eyes. Kazuya reached out to pick up his dog and held her into his arms, hugging her to calm himself down.

He decided to go out and took his dog walking around. He knew he needed some fresh air, although he felt reluctant to leave the house and had some chances to run into Kataoka senpai again. But it was only 5 AM, and he knew that most of people should have still been sleeping. He got dressed and grabbed a jacket before heading out of his apartment with his dog wagging its tail in excitement.

He walked around and it was already 7 AM when he came back to his apartment. He unlocked the door and entered his house. He undressed and brought along Ran-chan with him because she was soaked with mud when they walked earlier. When he was about to enter the bathroom, he heard the ringing bell from his front door. He got an idea about who it was, so he grabbed his bathrobe and went out to open the door.

And true enough, he found no one but a white carnation with a card on his door step. He picked it up and brought it into his house. After he entered the living room, he sat on the couch and began to read the card.

Dear Kazuya,

Have you forgiven me yet? I’m really sorry. But it was kinda lonely without you yesterday. Will you come to campus tomorrow? I know we have only few classes together, but at least we still can have lunch together. Oh, and your friend, Ueda isn’t it? He’s bugging me about you. He cornered and bombarded me with hundreds of questions about you. He thought I’ve done something to you that made you skip classes. Well, I had really done something to you, but I can’t explain to him what happened. I think maybe it’s better if you tell him himself about it. On the second thought, you should have told me too!  Ah, but you should forgive me first. Oh no, do I sound too demanding just now? I’m sorry. By the way, I give you a white carnation today! I really think that white really suits you well! The lady told me that white carnation means “sweet and lovely”. It’s true! You’re sweet and lovely! I have more and more confidence in choosing flower for you now.

Go to campus tomorrow, your friend is waiting for you. J

Jin

Kazuya smiled and folded the card. He brought the flower to the nearest vase and put the carnation there along with the white lily he got yesterday, and the cards were lying beside the vase. He felt his heart a little warmer now.

Kazuya didn’t expect to find Ueda in front of his door that afternoon. Ueda smiled at him and waved a plastic bag in front of him. Kazuya welcomed him and let him enter his apartment. Kazuya followed Ueda to the living room.

“I brought you takoyaki. It’s the best takoyaki in town!” Ueda said while placing the plastic bag on the table in front of him.

“Thank you, Ueda kun,” Kazuya sat on the other edge of the couch. “What’s bringing you here today?”

“Are you kidding me? You’ve been skipping classes for two days already without any explanation. Of course I’m worried about you,” Ueda said in slightly high tone, making Kazuya flinch a bit. Ueda realized his mistake and lowered his tone before muttering sorry.

“Sorry, it’s just that Bakanishi wouldn’t tell me what happened and it pissed me off.”

“Bakanishi? You mean, Akanishi kun?” Kazuya asked.

“Yes, he’s surely stupid. I don’t get it why those girls want to go out with him in the first place,” Ueda shook his head. Kazuya chuckled at the older boy’s remark.

“So, why are you skipping classes, Kamenashi? It’s not like you to skip classes,” Ueda turned his attention back to the younger boy in front of him.

Kazuya shifted in his seat uncomfortably. He didn’t want to tell anybody about his embarrassing past, but he also didn’t want to make Ueda worry about him. He seemed troubled and Ueda saw that.

“Well, if you don’t want to tell me, it’s okay. I won’t force you. I brought you some notes of yesterday and today’s classes. I know you wouldn’t want to miss the lessons,” Ueda winked at him with a playful smile.

Kazuya brightened at that. He had to admit that he had been worrying about his lessons, but then Ueda was being his lifesaver.

“Thank you, Ueda kun! And I’m sorry,” he looked down and felt guilty for not telling him the truth.

“It’s okay. I said I won’t force you, didn’t I? Don’t worry. Just go to campus when you feel better,” Ueda said softly.

Kazuya could only mutter a low thank you.

***

Kazuya still woke up from a nightmare the next morning, but he tried to ignore the pain in his chest. He sat on his bed with his dog on his lap, waiting for a certain ringing bell from his front door. And after some time that felt like hours for him, the familiar ringing bell was heard. He quickly ran to the front door and opened it. He found a red rose this time. He opened the card and read it thoroughly.

Dear Kazuya,

I know that maybe you didn’t want me to know about your past, but I can’t help it. I can’t leave you alone in your sorrow. I already knew about what had happened to you and that Kataoka guy and his friends. And yesterday I paid a little visit to his friends and knocked some senses into them. It was good enough to bring Koki along with me. He’s scary enough to shut them up. And I happen to pay another visit to this Kataoka guy after this. I’ll show you what’s left of him tomorrow. And don’t worry, I have my own hospital, so it wouldn’t be a big matter for me. Well, maybe for him. He has to pay for what he had done to you, and I’ll collect his payment.

Jin

Kazuya was shocked when he read the message. Before he knew what he was doing, he already ran out of his apartment to a certain place he had been afraid to go before.

Akanishi Jin, what the hell are you doing?
