A Weekend Play-by-Play...

Nov 05, 2007 03:40

I had a pretty decent weekend, despite not being able to go to Fun Fun Fun Fest. I really wanted to see Cat Power and Final Fantasy. :(

We'd originally planned the Texas Book Festival as our backup plan, but we decided to skip out on that too. And we DID try to see the play our friends are in, which was also planned -- it just didn't work out.

Still, it was a nice weekend.

Friday evening, I skipped out on other plans (MLE was having a Day of the Dead party) to go up to Austin. I'd completely forgotten that Marcos was going to be in town from LA this weekend, and was going to be having a party. He called me the night before he got here to make sure I would be there. I had told him yes weeks ago, so I couldn't really back out and tell him that I FORGOT he was coming into town.

So after dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant Jesus Maria, Vicky and I went out to the party... for a whopping half hour. It sort of upset us that we went there specifically for him, and he knew we wouldn't know the people at this party, yet we were ignored the entire time. We stayed by the bar and prepped for going out on the town. :P

So we met Andi and Tiffany at Doc's down on South Congress at around 10:45 and decided to make our way down to 7th Street. Our other friend Cait was begging us to go out and promised to pay our cover at Beauty Bar. So we met up at Side Bar first, had a few beers, talked with my friend Karen and Cait's friends, said goodnight to Andi and Tiffany, then walked over to Beauty Bar.

We were a little peeved because Cait purposely went ahead of us to get out of paying our cover charge, but Mitchell was already inside and he tracked her down for us. :P

I dunno ... Beauty Bar is weird. I can't stand the hipsters, but I still manage to have fun. We danced a little, then chatted on the patio, took some pics of a group of West Coasters in from SF and LA. I'd like to have gotten to know the guy from LA, but it was time to head home.

...

Saturday, we'd put off going out in public all day and had some horribly great Chinese buffet for a late lunch. We nixed the Book Fest plan and spent the day with Andi at Whole Foods. We took full advantage of the wine tasting and free samples all around. I also casually waved to this guy named Russ that I met at Marcos's party the night before.

Background: Russ is the guy that Marcos fooled around with and wanted to date while he was having his "poly-amorous" relationship with Johnny and Hyde. But even though they did fool around, Russ made it clear he did not want to be with Marcos exclusively.

Anyway, I met Russ the night before and I was sort of amazed that I recognized him at Whole Foods. I'm not good with retaining people -- especially after a costume party where everyone was wearing wigs. :P ... It probably helped that I knew he worked at Whole Foods, but still I didn't expect him to wave at me from the other side of the aisle.

So after Whole Foods, we walked across the street to Waterloo video, where I managed to find a used copy of Hedwig and the Angry Inch (my original went missing years ago) for $10 and Michel Gondry's music video collection. Afterward, we went back to Andi & Tiffany's apartment and plotted out next move. Both Vicky and I were feeling a little blah, so we decided to just go to Epoch and have a coffee. Like Whole Foods and so many other places in Austin, Epoch is a great place for eye-candy. ::le sigh::

Later, we went back home and watched Zoo (a doc about zoophiliacs, one of whom died from having sex with a horse), the Gondry videos and Disney's Aladdin ... which was the best part of the evening. Vicky had me laughing so hard I was crying while she sang along.

"Still I think he's rrrrattther tasty!"

....

We woke up STARVING! So we went to Luby's for some old people food .... It was fantastic! Later, we went to Town Lake to discuss our website (canyouseemyballs.com). Plenty of eye-candy there too, mostly dog-walkers and cyclists. It was such a beautiful day.

We also tried seeing our friends' play, but the box office accepted cash only, and the only Bank of America ATM in a two block radius of Congress St. was locked within the lobby of the bank itself. Which is pretty retarded and inconvenient.

So we went to Book People instead, so I could pick up more reference for my final multimedia project.

There's a magazine called 3x3 (pictured to the right), that showcases rising stars and established illustrators that are doing well in their field.

But $17 for a frickin' magazine! Oy! So, I picked it up for inspiration, but also because my professor's name (Marc Burckhardt... it's misspelled) is on the cover. :P

We went over to Central Market afterwards, and picked up a few things for dinner. Central Market isn't as fun as Whole Foods, but luckily, we did arrive just in time for their wine tasting. And that's always good.

So... Now I'm home, where I've been studying for my Am. Lit. exam. Let's hope it pays off.

out, play-by-play, weekend, party, fun, austin
