Bobcat Build and Bitter Coffee...

Apr 01, 2007 08:34

I'm up early this fine Sunday morning. I've got work at noon, so I decided to get my day started. I was up by 5:45, and craving breakfast by 8. I've just realized that I don't know how to make a cup of coffee. How terribly disappointed my mother will be.

So this past week was been pretty good. I'm making progress on my Iceland tourism project, and I've gotten several greenlights from Icelandic photographers to use their images for my magazine. God bless Flickr.

I didn't have Anthropology on Wednesday or Friday, so that probably helped my sanity quite a bit. However, I missed class two and a half times the past week, so I'm absolutely positive I'm going to fail the exam tomorrow.

Yesterday was Bobcat Build. Some people aren't that crazy about waking up early in the morning to do manual labor for someone else. But I've sort of been looking forward to it. Bobcat Build is an annual event where student organizations volunteer to clean up or fix things for the needy.

Our assignment was to do landscaping for Memorial Presbyterian Church. As many of you know, I love gardening, but I haven't been able to do any since I moved to Central Texas. Sometimes I miss having a yard. So Friday evening I went to bed at midnight so I'd have enough rest to get up by 6. But at 2 a.m., the lightning, thunder and howling gale woke me up. Bobcat Build is rain or shine, so I was uneasy about working outside in those conditions.

Luckily, by 7 a.m., the sun was out and it was warming up nicely. Unfortunately, our work site was water logged, and it made for a very tedious and muddy workload. But we wrapped it up by noon, and the people who run the church gave us a nice lunch of chicken and potatoes... there was fried chicken and chicken salad and potato salad and potato chips. It was kind of funny but VERY rewarding for us.

So, I'm pretty sore today, but I feel good. I've spruced up my old Stupid Ideals website a little, and I'm going to get some studying in before I go to work. Lily's out on the balcony stalking birds, and the sound of the steady traffic on I-35 is as soothing as my downstairs neighbor's wind chimes.
