[Chapter 14]

- Kazu-chan? We're going back home.

Mrs Ninomiya was stuck to the door of her daughter's room, and she had received no reply since she had returned from her date the day before without her boyfriend.

- She still doesn't want to talk. She said to her husband who was standing in front of the front door with their belongings.
- If you had left me alone with this little shit I would have ...
- Taka, stop you want? It's not funny.

Masaki and Sho arrived in genkan to greet them.

- You have everything?
- Yes Yes. I would have liked to greet your sister but I think she's not in mood for that. Take care of her, boys.
- As always Kaa-chan. Masaki smiled, hugging his mother.
- Don't worry. Sho added. Have a safe trip home.
- Thanks boys.

A few minutes later, Masaki and Kazumi's parents had left the apartment. The teacher sighed as the door closed and turned to his sister's room down the hall.

- Sho-chan, do you think I have to go see her? Or maybe I have to leave her alone for a moment ...
- You're her big brother, it's unlikely she'll throw you. I think you should try to talk to her, she probably needs you.
- Thanks for the advice. I wish she could live the same as us, Sho-chan. I really thought that would be the case. He said.

The reporter smiled, kissed his companion's cheek, encouraged him one last time, and returned to the living room. The youngest went to his sister's room and gave three small knocks to the door.

- Kazu-chan? It's Masaki ... well, I think it's obvious ... I'd like you to talk to me, maybe it'll be a little better after that, don't you think? I only want to help my little sister.

No answer.

- I'm coming in.

The young man pushed open the door and saw Kazumi curled up on herself, turning her back to him. She sniffed as he approached the bed and lay down beside her to take her in his arms. Immediately, his sister burst into tears again.

- There ... there ... I'm here. He whispered. Do you want to tell me what happened yesterday?
- We went to his place after our date ... and ... his mother was there ... She ... she ...
- She ?
- She was coming to deliver invitations ... Wedding invitations ...

Masaki frowned.

- For whose marriage?
- His ... Satoshi's ... with another woman ...
- Oh no Kazu-chan ...
- All this time I got fooled ... How could I be so stupid ...
- You're not stupid, you fell in love with him, love makes you blind.
- When I think I was only his little entertainment before he fits nicely with his wife. I should have known, I'm far from the perfect wife for a man from a family like Satoshi's.
- Don't say that, Kazu-chan. You are way too good for them.
- You say that because I'm your sister.
- I say that because it's true.
- Hmmm ... I'd like to stay alone ...
- Okay, I'm leaving. I'll bring you dinner tonight.

And after a quick kiss on the young woman's cheek, Masaki slipped away and returned to the living room where he snuggled comfortably in Sho's arms. The latter, in front of his companion's slaughtered face, kissed the top of his head and intertwined his fingers in the youngest's hair.

- So?
- He's getting married ... with another one.
- What an asshole ... Sho mumbled.
- I know.
- I thought he was hiding something, this guy. Indeed, I was right.
- I agree with you but Kazu-chan is devastated, she trusted him and she loved him.
- It'll be okay, we'll be here for her, right?

Masaki looked up and nodded.

- And if I put my hand on him, it's a dead man. I swear it.

Satoshi remained motionless, staring blankly at a room which seemed immense to him. His mother was already waving at the owner, describing what she had in mind for the wedding reception, his wedding. As for the architect, he had been in automatic pilot mode for a week, since Kazumi had left his apartment by slamming the door. He only had what he deserved, and he knew it. He should have told her the truth when his conscience had told him, screamed to do so and he did not even dare to imagine what state Kazumi would be in.

A little further in a corner of the room. Airi was watching him. He was a mess and she knew it was her fault. She bit her bottom lip. What could she do? It was too late now. She was going to marry him in three weeks, everything was ready, there were only some details to settle and the civil marriage to register left. It was not the wedding of her dreams but she would probably lose her father before having it, her perfect marriage. Instead, she would selfishly deprive a man of the one he loves. The biggest mistake of her life.

Gnawed by remorse, she felt bad and hurriedly left the reception room without another glance at her fiancé.

Mitsuki, also present, approached her little brother when she wanted to leave the room to be on time at her doctor's appointment and put a hand that was meant comforting on his shoulder. He did not even glance at her.

- It's okay ? She asked.
- Kazumi broke up with me. Okaa-san came to my apartment and told her everything.
- I'm sorry...

The young man turned to his sister, angry.

- I don't want your pity or your "I told you so" ok? I'm a big coward, I know it! I don't need someone to point it out to me! It is surely better that she is gone, she will find someone else.
- But no one who loves her as much as you do.

Satoshi glanced at his sister for a moment, frowning.

- What? It's true that you love her, right? You just didn't choose your priority in time. And I'm sorry that this old owl broke your relationship. Well, I'll leave you with her and her table plans, I have a doctor's appointment. She said patting his shoulder before leaving the room.

The young man watched his sister leave and then looked at his mother who continued her fuss in front of the owner and gritted his teeth. His hand slipped into his pants pocket and pulled out the pendant he had given to Kazumi.

- Forgive me. He whispered to himself, staring at the orange stone shining with a thousand lights.

Jun opened her door that morning to a completely devastated Kazumi contrary to what she seemed to want to reveal and she knew in an instant what should be the cause and also why the young woman had asked her kindly apologize for her absence this past week.

- Ohayo ... She let out a voice barely articulated and without crossing her eyes once.
- Ohayo, Kazumi-chan, come in.

The pregnant woman let her friend and assistant go and let her take off her shoes before taking her to the living room where they settled.

- So ? How are you ?
- I'm OK. Kazumi answered.
- Don't try to fool me. You look devastated, Kazumi-chan. What is happening ?

The youngest at last glanced at her and sighed before placing herself on the couch so as to face the publisher.

- I left Satoshi.
- What's happened ?
- He's going to marry another one. It's been planned for a long time and he did not find it useful to tell me. I feel so stupid ...

Kazumi sniffed and wiped her tears with the back of her hand.

- How could I believe that a man like him would like me? He comes from a good family, he is handsome, he has a good job, a lot of money ...
- Don't say that Kazumi-chan! Satoshi loves you so much that he did not dare to tell you that his parents had already arranged his marriage. Toma and I tried to tell him to do it, otherwise it would break your heart but...
- You knew all this?

Jun suddenly realized her mistake and saw Kazumi begin to get angry rightly.

- I...
- Since all this time you knew about it and you didn't feel good to tell me! She cried, raising from the couch.
- I promise you that I wanted to do it many times but I felt that it wasn't for me to do it! Believe me, I'm as mad at Satoshi as you are, but something is sure, he loves you so much. He just did not know what to do ... he's caught between two fires and I admit that he's acting like a child ... I'm sorry, Kazumi-chan.

She dropped back on the couch.

- I can't really blame you for that, you have other worries right now.
- That's right, but if you need, I'm still here, okay?
- That's nice thanks. Kazumi thanked her with a brief smile. You're right, what hurts me the most is that I learned it from his mother's mouth and not from his. He should have confessed all this himself. I don't think I would have accepted it better but ... shit ... it makes me feel like I don't count for him.
- I assure you he was sincere on that level. And his mother is a real jerk it's better not to turn on her, it's not worth it.

Kazumi laughed bitterly.

- What's the use of knowing if he loves me or not now? He will not leave his wife to stay with me. He better forget me and be happy with her.

The young woman felt her tears rise to her eyes and buried her face in her hands to let out her sobs. Jun approached her and hugged her as she could while rubbing her back and whispering that she could let herself go as much as she wanted.
