They're ok when it rains, but they don't really keep me warm unless I wear a lot of layers under.

Actually with new technology, they've developed clothing that have small layers of a special material that heats up along with your body heat, causing better insulation. They are water proof and much more durable than normal jackets. However they do cost a lot more...
