Background info on your character:
At an unknown young age and for an inexplicable reason, Masaki's parents bit the bullet. So he lived by himself for a while, building that cliché loneliness complex which was quickly dispelled when he was summoned to La Gias. La Gias is a land that exists inside Earth and is rather technomagical. It turns out Masaki has an abnormally huge prana reserve in his body, leading him to have massive amounts of stamina. Prana is like mana or MP but not really. Still, the stamina. That stamina combined with physical prowess makes him great at sports and other outdoor activities but he still don't thunk so gud.
Still, due to his complex past, Masaki is capable of quickly suffering a 180 degree change in emotions, which can change right back in an instant. Because of this, his strong feelings of justice, and his extreme hot blood; the God of Wind, Cyfis, chose Masaki to pilot the Cybuster, the legendary Lord of the Wind. It was a robot fit for him; outstandingly fast and very powerful. By fast, I mean REALLY fast. It's one of the fastest, if not THE fastest mech known to man. Its downside is that it requires a large amount of prana to pilot, which Masaki is abundantly equipped with. Masaki also needs the speed the Cybuster offers, since he has the worst sense of direction known to man. He can even manage to get lost in the straight corridors of a battleship. His two familiars, Kuro and Shiro (talking cats), poke fun at him for his lack of direction and try to help but they are as bad off as Masaki.
Anyways, due to a series of evil science experiments, an awesome SCIENCEtist named Shu Shirakawa is close to completing a mech that runs on and makes black holes. He was pretty close with the La Gias peeps but that soon changed. Shu betrays La Gias and drags his tests and results to the surface world so he can finish completing his project. In the midst of said betrayal, Masaki's adoptive father ends up dead, formulating a life long rival. Taking the Cybuster, Kuro, and Shiro to the surface; Masaki begins his search to find and kill Shu. Not so surprisingly, Masaki stumbles on Shu right as he betrays the Earth Federation (gasp!). They have a short clash and Shu escapes in his completed Granzon and Masaki ends up joining the Earth Federation at a later date. One note about the Granzon in case I haven't mentioned it. BLACK HOLES.
Fast forward through many battles until you get to the mid-boss. Masaki lands the finishing blow on Bian Zoldark, the leader of the Divine Crusaders. This proves contentious later as his daughter, Lune Zoldark, challenges Masaki. Masaki handily beats her but his attitude causes her to fall in love with Masaki. Being a dolt, he doesn't really realize this even though he has blush attacks at the smallest compliments. The worst part is even his cats notice that Lune crushes on him hardcore. Needless to say, this relationship goes nowhere. It's also nice to note that Masaki actually has a decent sized harem but he has zero interest in any of them. Including Lune. Well, maybe Wendy but we don't see her at all in the OG Verse so the point is moot.
Let's hit the fast forward button again. Over the period of 3 games, Masaki develops a close relationship with Lune, Ryusei (the main character), and Ibis. Masaki and Ryusei are probably part of some “Ignore the Feelings of the Girls Around You” club. They high five each other for awesome moves while watching the multiple girls who love them beg for attention. I'm pretty sure Ryusei probably slips Masaki some mecha anime too. I wouldn't doubt this for an instant. Masaki and Ibis develop a friendship together as they are constantly paired as wing mates. Ibis' mech is the only one who is even barely capable of keeping up with the Cybuster so they are stuck together on a consistent basis. Not to mention that Ibis has a female harem too so they're also harem buddies.
Fast forward again for a long time. Masaki is quickly becoming a useless character because he never gets a new move or a mech upgrade. Don't forget that his stats suck compared to the other pilots. Plus, the plot pays little attention to him. SUDDENLY, Shu (remember him?) is the surprise final boss. Shu decides that after beating the final boss, it's the perfect time to merge with the dark god Volkruss and destroy all the good guys with his Neo Granzon. Masaki and friends kill the overpowered Shu (anti-matter attacks powered by SUPER SCIENCE). He laments Shu's death and wonders where he turned wrong, etc. But there seems to be more in store for Shu in the future so Masaki may still have a story to continue. At any rate, needing to tend to things back in La Gias, Masaki leaves behind Lune and everyone else and heads home. Hopefully, he made it....

Wait a second! You can't lose a huge mech that quickly! There's no way! I'm not lost so I must have misplaced it somewhere. It was on the beach and I walked into the forest a little so that means I just have to turn around and I'll see the beach. But why do I STILL SEE THE FOREST?!
