"So this is the treehouse. Three of us live here. All except Dairine." Tim led Dick up the stairs that wound around the tree trunk, spiraling up to the landing of the first landing, high above the forest floor. It was dark there and Tim didn't stop, just continued up to the second floor. "This level is mostly storage right now. There aren't enough of us to warrant opening it for living quarters. We live up here on the second."
They entered into a smallish room, shoes carelessly discarded, jackets--so rarely needed--hung on hooks. Tim kicked his shoes off and sent them to join the rest in the corner. "The common room in the center tends to get a bit dark. Bedrooms are around the circumference to give them windows." He pushed open the door and took Dick into what was indeed a dim common area, with a rough kitchen, seating area, bookshelf. Light came in from tubes fed down through still yet another level. "We're too far off the beaten path for electricity unfortunately."
He was babbling at this point, playing host because he didn't know what else to do. What was he supposed to say to Dick? How have you been? When are you from?
