Timezone: Central

Character: Ventus
Series: Kingdom Hearts
Version: Kingdom Hearts canon
Age: 15 (estimated)
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight (not as if he’s ever considered the alternative)
Appearance:

Ventus, at first glance, certainly doesn’t look like a fighter. He’s only fifteen years old, and his body reflects - small, slender, and quite short. His face, mostly free of rough edges, adds to this overall youthful appearance. Bright blue eyes and a thin mouth are usually covered with a smile, or a look of innocent confusion; the short, blond hair is definitely a factor that contributes.

His clothes, however, do look suited to the strong fighter that he really is. The outfit, a thin short-sleeved shirt and short, baggy pants, is far from simple. The colors alternate between patterned mixes of white, black, and grey, with a touch of red on his collar. Accenting this outfit is several gold and silver metal pieces which, if examined closely, appear to be some sort of armor.

As a matter of fact, they are. Ventus can use the metal piece of his shoulder to activate a suit of armor to cover his entire body. Like the metal pieces on his clothing, the armor is silver and gold, with neither color being dominant. Red accents run across the legs, as well.

Personality:

The fact that Ven has a heart of pure light is easy to believe. Though fifteen, the boy sometimes seems like a child in the way he views the world - in shades of black and white, with his own happiness hinging on the happiness of those he cares about. Yes, he cares about his friends and loved ones most of all, and would do anything - absolutely anything - to make sure that they were safe. Of course, that’s not a simple matter when you make friends as easily as Ven does. He’s kind and sociable, making him easy to get along with…and once you’ve formed any sort of attachment him, you’ve made a friend for life.

Unsurprisingly, Ven is also a bundle of energy. Of all of his friends, he is probably the most carefree, able to light up a room with his confidence and cheerful demeanor. He laughs and jokes easily, and…to be perfectly honest, he’s adorable. Again, he’s almost like a child in the way he asks questions without reserve, and his rather simplistic way of considering the thoughts of others. Admittedly, this demonstrates a lack of understanding of the deeper workings of the mind…but he always, always has the best intentions.

On that same token, Ven isn’t one to hide his emotions, including disappointment, sadness, or anger. If he has something to say, or feels strongly about something, he’ll say so unless he’s given reason to hide it, such as strong reason to worry about someone’s reaction, or a need to keep a secret.

Ven’s isolated upbringing, despite being raised as a fighter like his friends, is probably why he continues to harbor such a childlike view of the world. Shades of grey are difficult for him to wrap his head around, even though he doesn’t necessarily deny their existence - or, to put it simply, Ven knows the world is complicated, but he doesn’t understand that fact.

He wants to understand, though. Slow to the draw or not, Ven likes to ask questions. He wonders about the world sometimes and, when he starts to focus on any one point, distracting him from that thought is difficult until he figures out an answer.

Ven is, to put it simply, a good kid, naïve but not hopelessly so. Since his journey has begun, he has slowly matured and learned more about the world, and himself, knowledge which will be invaluable in helping him grow up and face the challenges he has been presented with.

Abilities/Weaponry/Strengths: (Strengths referring to personality type strengths. Not physical ones.)

Ventus is the wielder of the Keyblade, a weapon that can unlock anything from a simple treasure chest to the heart of a world. The Keyblade can be summoned and dismissed at will, and grants it’s wielder a tremendous boost in power. In addition, it’s properties and abilities can be changed by equipping different keychains, which provide various boosts in strength, magic, or reach.

As a fighter, Ven is notable for his quickness. Though not a powerhouse like his friend Terra, or a master of magic like Aqua, he can hit rapidly and effectively, nimbly and expertly dodging and attacking foes. While he can use all types of magic, including high levels of Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, Magnet, Zero Gravity, and Stop, he is most proficient in Wind (Aero) and Holy magic, to the point where many of his special attacks are Wind and Light based. Several of these special attacks, known as Shotlocks, can hit multiple enemies at once. Also, if Ven uses enough of certain spells or abilities in certain combinations, his attacks may become more specialized and enhanced by those abilities, creating what is known as a ‘Command Style’. For example, if Ven uses several Fire spells in succession, his attacks will temporarily become Fire-based, eventually culminating in a finisher where several pillars of Fire close in on an enemy.

Like Terra and Aqua, Ventus also has a Wayfinder, which allows him to temporarily borrow the abilities of those he is close to. However, he will only be able to D-link, as it’s called, with people within Paixao.

Ven, though occasionally naive, can be praised for his optimism and drive - it takes a tough blow to wear down his positive energy and, if there’s a good cause to defend, he’ll fight as long as he can. His loyalty, however, is perhaps his strongest attribute. He’ll defend his friends to the very end, and will help those he cares about however he can. For that matter, he’ll help anybody out, if he can - he’s a good kid, and he likes to see people happy.

Weaknesses: (Physical and mental)

Thanks to his fairly well-rounded fighting style, Ven doesn’t have any particularly damning weakness in battle. That’s not to stay that he’s unbeatable, of course - far from it - just that he’s strong, but there is no particular strategy for taking him down (though, considering the fact that his heart is pure light, it’s not unlikely that he has a weakness to darkness based attacks).

As previously mentioned, Ven doesn’t always know how to handle complex situations. Grey areas tend to though him off, though that’s not to say he isn’t willing to compromise - simply that, sometimes, he doesn’t know how to go about doing so. There’s also no denying the fact that, despite his radiant heart, he isn’t always the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree; certainly not stupid, but occasionally a bit absent-minded and easily misled (in other words, derppppppp).

History:

We don’t know where Ventus was born, who his parents were, or how we grew up. But we do know that, sometime before he was ten years old, he was granted the power of the Keyblade though the Rite of Succession, likely performed by the aging Master Xehanort. Master Xehanort then took the young boy in as his apprentice, and attempted to train him to be proficient in the powers of darkness. While it’s unknown how long he continued to try, it is known that he failed. Xehanort even went so far as to summon a horde of Neoshadow Heartless to attack the young boy, in the hopes that Ventus would be forced to call upon the darkness to defend himself. But he simply wasn’t strong enough to fight; he was entirely unable to call upon such power, even when his life was at risk.

As the boy lay unconscious on the ground, Xehanort’s frustration with the futility of training him drove the man to take extreme action; he spilt Ventus’ heart in two, creating a being formed entirely of his darkness. Ven was now left with nothing but light…which wasn’t nearly enough to hold his heart together. Seeing that his former student was dying, Xehanort decided to take him to a world called Destiny Islands to live out his final moments. Instead, Ven was fortunate enough to come to that world on the night a baby was being born. This “brand new heart”, attracted to the warmth of the light in Ven’s own heart, visited him within the boy’s Station of Awakening (a special place within his heart) and offered to join their hearts, saving Ven’s life.

Master Xehanort, surprised by this turn of events, took the boy - now unresponsive and completely without his memories - to his old friend Eraqus in the Land of Departure, to be trained instead as a warrior of light. Eraqus accepted the boy, taking him in and training him along with his two other students, Terra and Aqua. The three were fast friends, and they continued to bond over the next four years.

After those four years past, the day finally came for Terra and Aqua’s Mark of Mastery Exam - the test that would prove that they were ready for the title of Keyblade Master. Since it was a special occasion, Eraqus invited Master Xehanort - who Ventus no longer remembered - to witness the proceedings. Though momentarily disturbed by the sight of the strange Keyblade Master, Ventus was determined to watch his friends become Masters themselves, even when the first round of the test went wrong. The balls of light meant to serve as simple opponents for Terra and Aqua to demonstrate their skills were mysteriously corrupted by darkness, and attacked even the uninvolved Ven, who fought alongside his friends. The test, after that, seemed to proceed as normal. Only Aqua, however, became a Keyblade Master - Terra had been unable to fully control the darkness within himself.

Shortly afterwards, Ven returned to his room and found a stranger waiting for him - a masked boy, clad in black, who warned him that Terra was going to leave and come back changed for good. Though he doesn’t fully trust the intruder, his worry gets the better of him, and he leaves to chase Terra down for a talk, only to witness his friend fly off and leave him behind. Disturbed by the warning and this subsequent occurrence, Ven decides to leave and pursue his friend, ignoring his Master’s rule that he couldn’t leave the world without permission.

Though the first three worlds he visits are all amazing learning experiences, he has no luck tracking down Terra, though he does run into Aqua. She tries to convince him to return home, but Ven refuses, arguing that he has to find Terra “before it’s too late” and running off. Soon after this, he sees the masked boy again while traveling the lanes between the worlds. Ven pursues him to an empty, barren world, and there asks him what his cryptic warning meant. He refuses to explain, however, instead taunting Ven and summoning a Keyblade of his own. The two fight once, and the masked boy proves himself far more skilled in battle, muttering nonsense about how useless Ven is. But just as he’s about to be finished off, another Keyblade wielder - King Mickey Mouse - saves him, and they fight together. After they dish out a nice beating, the masked boy leaves, telling Ven to consider himself “on probation”. Not knowing what to make of this, Ven instead has a short conversation with the King. It isn’t long, however, before both are dragged off by Mickey’s Star Shard to an unfamiliar world.

There, in Radiant Garden, Ven finally gets the chance to meet up with both Terra and Aqua. Rather than finding answers and piece of mind, however, he witnesses Aqua accusing Terra of getting to close to the darkness, and Terra taking the accusation badly. Ven, also upset by his friend’s words, is not reassured when she asks him yet again to return home. He once again refuses, running off to go find Terra. But Terra won’t let Ven travel with him, either - once again, he watches as his friend leaves him behind.

Lost and uncertain, Ven no longer knows where to turn. “It must be nice, knowing who your friends are.” he comments before leaving; he knows that he doesn’t want to return home, now, but he can’t keep chasing Terra and Aqua if they don’t want to have him around. So he decides to keep going to other worlds and making new friends, in the hopes of maybe finding answers and direction that way. In spite of his uncertainty, he still finds himself missing Terra and Aqua, and perking up eagerly whenever he learns that they may possibly be in any of the worlds he’s visiting.

After an adventure in a world called Neverland, he again finds the King’s Star Shard…minus the King. Knowing that he needs to return his friend’s lost possession, he manages to convince the fairy Tinkerbell to give it back to him…only for the Star Shard to activate, landing Ven outside of a strange dome.

Welcome to Paixao, Ventus.
