working hard and being nice.

i am watching "the next food network star" which i dvr-ed because jose told me the other day that he does not like to watch food shows, which i did not know and have been watching with him for the past six months. oops! oh well, that is why we have dvr, right?? (tangent: i do not know how to make the accent mark over jose's "e" because i am using a PC laptop right now that i have for school, not my normal macbook. this is why his name does not have the usual accent. end tangent.) i am also lesson planning. i nerdily really like to lesson plan. as of right now, if i was not teaching, one of the other jobs i would consider is curriculum design. that is totally nerdy. oh well. i like to lesson plan! i made a temporary long term plan which i know i am going to have to edit when i meet with the other literacy teachers (two other reading teachers and a social studies / nonfiction studies teacher, no other writing teachers on campus). i also made a unit plan for the 6th graders for the summer and i am now working on the first week of lesson plans. i would love to also lesson plan the remaining two weeks of the summer tonight, and i may do it because i am on a roll (minus this break i am taking to post about my lesson plans on livejournal). i am only teaching 6th graders during the summer, which is fine because it is more manageable. there are about 85 of them and we (me plus two other teachers who are working with the 6th graders during the summer) spent thursday and friday doing teambuilding / culture building type activities and reviewing / reteaching policies and expectations. starting tomorrow, the 6th graders will have teambuilding / culture activities in the morning and at the end of the day, and in between they will go to four classes, including writing with me!

so ... i like working at KIPP! it is a lot of work, yes, but it is also a positive and professional work environment, and so far i have not minded the hours i have been putting in, both at school and at home. plus, there is always diet coke in the refrigerator. jose and i both have been spending a lot of time at school this week, but the weekend has been a good break. the house is somewhat cleaner now, too, and the laundry is done!

summer is not exactly relaxing yet, but we are having fun and gearing up for a good year of challenges. july is coming soon.
