a new day
i am sick, and that is keeping me from enjoying this fully, but i have to say you all, this is a beautiful, new day in america! yes, i love obama for his policies and his stance on the issues. i believe this man is for change and i agree with most of what he stands for.
but the real beauty is a black man as our president. we NEED this. my students need to see a man of color leading our country. my future children need to see it. i need to see it, my generation needs to see it, and the generations before that need to see it. this is what we need to move forward, and to move forward in global history. all of obama and company's sweeping rhetoric is NOT overdone - this is a major, historical event. i told my students today that they are LUCKY and BLESSED to be an age where they can remember this day. i told them they will tell their grandchildren. i am blessed to have had the opportunity to vote in this election, and to vote for obama. some day i will tell my children. and what a blessing for my children, who will have a latino surname, speak spanish, and potentially look darker than me, to be born never knowing a time when there was only white male presidents in this country.
