For a little while, Ryan had considered joining the baseball team like Buck had suggested, just for something to do, but with games on the same day as football practice, he'd changed his mind. He'd never really seen himself as the team-joining type anyway, but there wasn't a hell of a lot to do on the island. Physical activity was easy enough to come by, but that was it. Sheer mental boredom would probably wind up driving him crazy, if he wasn't already.
Spending time with Summer was always good, except that every time they talked, they wound up circling back to home without even meaning or wanting to, and he instinctively shied from talk of Marissa for both the same reasons as Summer did and very different ones. While he still didn't have any idea how to get home, any work he'd been doing looking into that had slowed in the last week. The only thing he had to go on, anyway, were the journals left behind in the council office, and there was nothing in there to work with. All they really did was make him more curious about the dinosaurs.
It was in this vein of thought that he came across Lucy. He'd been about to head into the Compound to return one of the journals, but she was already outside it, and he wasn't in a hurry to go anywhere. "Hey," he said, grinning. A thought occurred to him and he added, "You ever actually seen the dinosaurs?"
