PROLOGUE
A groan could be heard through the room as the figure that lay sprawled on the small bed in the corner turned over, hiding from the sun. The sun had just begun to rise, the soft rays streaming in through the windows. The young man on the bed began to toss and turn in earnest, hoping his sleep would return to him. After a few moments, he grudgingly sat up, admitting defeat against the wake up call of the sun.
"Dante! Are you awake?" a voice called out from beyond the room door.
Dante got up from the bed and stretched his hands above his head, his abdominal muscles flexing as he did so. The sharply defined contours of his body glistened in the sunlight, a sight that would make any woman - or man- swoon. He was one of those men for whom everything seemed effortless, from the athletic fluidity of his movements to the way he walked, his easy countenance and his charming mannerisms. Dante bent over and retrieved his shirt from under the bed and threw it on, heading over to the washing basin as he did so. He splashed the water onto his face, effectively waking himself.
He put on his working boots and walked into the living room, where his guardian, Taran, was sitting at the rickety dining table with a grim look on his face. Dante, who had entered the room smiling, suddenly stopped in his tracks, a frown taking over his perfect features.
"What's wrong?" said Dante
"Son, all these long years I have looked after you and cared for you, treated you like my own flesh and blood, yet I have not told you the entire truth. It is I who am to blame for the consequences of this moment, so before I tell you the truth, you must promise to not think any less of me. Please forgive me."
"There is something I should have told you, a long time ago, yet, being a fool, I thought that I could get away with keeping you here, that people would never notice. However, as you mature into your youth, the resemblance is uncanny and everyday, more and more people are getting suspicious. You may want to take a seat, son, this will take a while."
Dante did as he was told, and took a seat in front of the man who had raised him so well.
"A long time ago, there lived a young King and Queen in the Kingdom of Camelot. They were deeply in love and as rulers of their land, they were obligated to produce an heir. However, they were unable to do so. The Queen suffered from a physical problem that prevented her from ever having children. King Uther, stricken with grief, consulted the Court Sorceress, Nimueh. After a long discussion, they reached a solution; through the power of magic, she would grant Uther a child." Taran paused to let Dante take in all the information.
"The spell went off perfectly, within nine months, Camelot was blessed with not one, but two heirs. However, there was a rather a large price to pay in return for this price. In order to bring a life into this world, one must be taken. The night the twin heirs were born, Queen Igraine lost her life. Another catch was that no one but the Queen and Nimueh knew that, that night more than one child was brought into this world."
"The older of the two, Arthur Pendragon, was presented to the king as his sole heir, while Nimueh took the younger twin as her 'reward'. However, shesoon had to flee and go undercover as Uther had outlawed magic in Camelot and set up a hunt for her. Nimueh could not take care of a child while on the run, so she left the child with an old trusted friend in a small, unknown village."
Dante interjected, "But what does this have to do with me?"
"Oh, my dear child, this has everything to do with you, for you are the lost heir of Camelot, Arthur Pendragon's twin.
