Just before Ethans second birthday, I noticed that Ethan wasn't developing quite like other kids. He no longer spoke any words, stopped responding to his name and was generally in his own world. I started doing research and all of my findings pointed me towards autism. Ethans dad was deployed to Iraq at this time so the task of getting my boy help was all up to me. When Ethan was first evaluated by early intervention, I was told he was in the 12 month range for all areas of development( now he was actually 2.5). Shortly after Ethan started therapy, Ethan started using some words. By Christmas of 2008, Ethan was finally starting to communicate. He FINALLY said "momma" and finally was responding to his name about 25 percent of the time. Today, as Ethan is about to turn 5, his delays are hardly noticeable. He's going into a regular education kindergarten next year and loves being around other kids. I honestly believe that of Ethan had not received the intensive therapy, while he was young, he would not have progressed to where he is now. It has taken a lot of effort, a lot of money and a lot of resources to achieve what he has. Our family is going to be walking in "Strides for Autism" next month. All three kids are joining us and we are looking for donations to support autism research to find a cure for this disorder.
please donate anything you can, 5 dollars, 50 cents! ANYTHING helps. Thank you!
