Mystic Falls High School - Monday Evening FHT

Oct 29, 2012 20:22

Jake was pretty sure it wasn't fair to have a high school football team that had a vampire and a werewolf. Though, maybe the latter was why the team were named the Timberwolves. Too bad it was such a wimpy werewolf because Jake was convinced he could kick Tyler's ass any day of the week. It might also explain why he was secretly rooting for the ( Read more... )

Hey, if he wanted speed, he could've texted her. But then that would require him to actually type on his un-smart phone and it wasn't like she was an inchworm, just ensuring she looked and smelled appropriately great for the rest of the evening.

The win had everyone pumped and loud and ready for the post-game victory bonfire. She and some of the girls giggled over just how drunk they would need to be to find any of the football players attractive as they made their way back down to where everyone was hanging out before leaving for the old Lockwood property. Spotting Jake on the bleachers, Caroline waved for him to come down and join her.

He really wished she'd come up to him for a moment so they could talk alone, but seeing that wasn't going to happen, Jake moved down to join them.

"There isn't enough booze in the world to make that happen," he said as he moved beside Caroline. He wasn't even going to bother pretending he hadn't been listening to them.

Dana snorted, her face looking shocked by Jake's response. "He's probably right," Caroline replied as she grabbed Jake's sleeve and started pulling him away from the girls like she might be headed for her car.

"Remember," she murmured, "just because you can hear, doesn't mean you should react."

"I'm sure it was loud enough for everyone to hear," he sighed, knowing she was right and he hadn't been thinking. "Whatever. You were great out there." Because a compliment was the best way to get out of trouble.

At least he knew how to manipulate her into moving on.

"I really was," she agreed happily, an extra bounce in her step. "I think we might go to state this year if we keep this up."

"As long as no one else has three vampires on their team," he teased, grasping her lower arm in turn so he could tug her closer.

Caroline made a face up at him. "You know, I don't count on the football team and Tyler's a wolf, not a vampire," she pointed out. "Is it wrong that I would like to make history in my senior year of high school? Because it seems fair that if I have to be, you know, dead, I might as well get to enjoy myself."

"I meant to outnumber the supernaturals on your team," Jake replied, he didn't know if he really wanted to count Tyler as a wolf. A shoddy one, maybe. It wasn't really fair of her to play the dead card either.

"And I'm pretty sure the cheerleaders could beat anyone," he decided, leaning down to kiss her cheek. "Or just you. You'd be enough."

"Oh fine, butter me up with more of your compliments," she told him, smiling a little at the kiss. "Think you can tolerate a few minutes more socialization today?"

Because he'd been doing a lot of socialising out on the bleachers with no one he knew. "I dunno, is there food somewhere?"

"Um...do you happen to like very special brownies?" Caroline offered, amused with the idea of an impaired Jake. "Because otherwise I might have to stop and get you a bucket of chicken for after."

"Does this school do parties that aren't about getting wasted or getting high?" he asked, because he was starting to see a theme here. Not that he'd been to that many parties, but he'd lugged the alcohol around on Elena's birthday party. Plus, he could still smell those idiots standing further away.

Caroline had to think about that for a moment. "Are there other kinds of parties?"

"Normal ones?" he suggested. Not that he counted as he hadn't really organised or been to that many parties, but still... there was a culture gap here. Or at least a gap.

"Normal meaning...parcheesi and chex mix for everybody?" Caroline teased. "Because I think those are the parties my mother would really like me to attend." She had never been to such a gathering. In fact, chances were high that Caroline thought parcheesi was a game that involved actual cheese.

Jake was pretty sure Liz had given up on that part. "So what's this party?" he asked, avoiding an answer to her question by rolling his eyes.
