Party Crash with withonestroke

The Spring Fling was pretty much the lamest party Mia had ever been to, in retrospect.  The decorations were crepe paper, tacky and hanging from the ceiling in streamers, half-filled balloons that bobbed and waved and generally got in the way on the dance floor.  The music wasn't that great and Mia mostly ignored it in favor of listening to her date try and make small talk.

She had to admit, it was pretty cute the way he would stumble over his phrasing and keep glancing at her out of the corner of his eye, like he'd burst into flames or something if he ever stared at her straight on.  It made her feel less awkward to know that she wasn't the only one nervous about this whole thing (although her nervousness was for slightly different reasons).

Mia let him slow dance with her and he tucked his arms around her waist like a gentleman.  And only stepped on her foot once.

It was nearing the end of the dance when she sent him for punch to give her feet a rest.  She looked at the kids dancing around her--girls in groups, boys standing by and egging each other on to catch their attention--and smiled.  She felt...kinda normal.

It was nice.
