RIP Rehnquist :[

Okay, here's the deal. As a moderate, I can see both sides of the spectrum expressing their views on the current situation- however, More often than not I find myself joining the people who call for us to put aside accuation and political blame-mongering in a crisis. Not so much this time. I have no sympathy for either side. Please remember, yes, George W. Bush appointed as head of FEMA a man who had spent the previous 11 years pimping for wealthy horse breeders. (Which I didn't know, by the way) FEMA head Mike Brown is a man completely over his head in this crisis. Not his fault. Hiring this unqualified man to head this vital front-line agency, FEMA, is not a crime but it hasn't helped us in any way. WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT THE SITUATION? Help as much as we can by Relief efforts. Obviously, the Federal Gov't nor FEMA can do it alone. But, the liberal extremists are being pretty extreme, as in the last week they’ve reached yet a new level of destructiveness. They are literally unable to discuss any real problem in a responsible way. Their only interest in any subject is how they can use it to attack Bush. What this means is that a very large part of the brains of the country, such as they are, instead of being devoted to solving problems or conveying useful information, are devoted to solely to harming Bush. So, for example, you open a column by some reputable columnist hoping to get useful information on New Orleans, and all you get is Bush bashing. At a certain point, this leftist destructiveness, just by itself, even without considering all our other terrible problems, could be enough to make the country incapable of functioning. However, the Right defense isn't much better, we need to leave out all of the other actions of the federal gov't and just move on!
ON THAT NOTE....

CASH FOR KATRINA

Who: All Lee County High School Students

When: September 6th-9th, 2005

What: A monetary drive in order to help relieve victims of Hurricane Katrina that struck Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi.

Why: The intention of this project is to have all Lee County High Schools raise money for a joint fund to send over to a school district(s) that was affected by Hurricane Katrina. We went through an inconvenience last year with Charley, but this catastrophic event is one that needs much more aid than we.

How: Have members of the Student Government Associations collect money from the student body, teacher staff, and administration during lunch periods, classes, etc. Each school will promote this project as much as possible, through posters, TV Production, and constant encouragement.

Goal: To raise $15,000+ collectively, through these four days in all 12 schools in the county.

DONATE. Seriously. They need it.

Props to Diddy and Jay-Z, who are personally donating a combined $1 million to the American Red Cross. Celine Dion, who also donated $1 million, and our favorite, Hilary Duff, who donated $250,000.
