Muffins Are The Best Thing To Do With Crankiness

Jan 04, 2011 19:00

When I start feeling irritable, I make muffins. This is primarily because it is much harder for people to yell at me for making loud banging noises and swear in a fairly audible voice when they know delicious treats are to follow.

Somewhat ironically, one of the things that is making me irritable is that my wrist is starting to hurt, probably because I've been spending too much time typing. Obviously the best thing to do is to write a blog post about, you know, things I do to alleviate that scratchy, back-of-the-mind "IT IS PUNCHING TIME" feeling. This is sure to end well.

WHATEVER. MUFFINS.

The recipe I usually use is from Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything, which I will reproduce here on account of feeling like it.

3 tbsp melted butter or canola or other neutral oil
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon (I usually use a little more, just because it tastes nice)
1 egg
1 cup milk
1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries (if frozen, don't defrost)
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 tbsp minced orange zest (we've only ever got dried--oh! aha! those ARE oranges on the counter! VICTORY)

Ahaha, we don't have milk! DEFEAT. Silly Ned. Okay then. I will finish this tomorrow, and will post this now so I actually have to do the rest then or be shamed in front of the whole entire web. I would never recover from something like that. Of course.
