Seriously, though. What is it with me and Post-French Revolution novels?

There are two types of books in this world: the kind I read in one day (this being, I would posit, the majority of the books I read for pleasure), and the kind I don't.

The epitome of the former are all around me: To Kill a Mockingbird. Any book by Terry Prachett or Jasper Fforde. Harry Potter and Lemony Snickett. There are actually books that I put into this catagory that may not fit, technically, simply because I mean it in the sense that I speed through them and would finish in a day if not otherwise kept busy. Freakonomics is a good example.

The epitome of the latter remains Les Miserables, which took just under five months to finish. There are others, although of course I can't name them all. Two off hand. Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell.

And Le Compte de Monte Cristo.

Booyah.

I'll talk more about said novel, and possibly link it thematically to one or two other works, at a later date.

Now I've got to hit the gym. I'm not very good about it; Sloth is one of my failings, which probably number six (I'm as wrathful as a dove).

book, count of monte cristo
