As some of you know, my pug Dulcy has been suffering from repeated urinary tract infections that have been spreading dangerously despite our best efforts (and those of our vet). Over this past weekend it came back... again. Her last course of antibiotics was a full four weeks. We got her to the vet in good time and then took her to the hospital in south deerfield. She had an elevated fever and had already developed an extraordinarily high white blood cell count.
She's stable now after three days in the hospital and has come home. She has a kidney stone that may or may not be the cause of the recurring infections and is on special food to try to dissolve it... apparently dogs can't pass a kidney stone.
Her other kidney doesn't look right in the ultrasound, which means she may have suffered kidney damage from the infection. The vet has her on a six week course of antibiotics at significantly higher doses than previously.
She's home, and finally back to herself (though there's still some inappropriate peeing). Never-the-less, I'm worried.
