Jaedyn gazed at the silent young man that sat before her, eating his chicken curry. She took some bites of hers but something about him attracted her gaze far more than her food. His eyes were large and dark, constantly looking around but for what she did not know. His limbs were slender, but muscular and his hair unkempt about his face, constantly needing to be brushed back so he could eat.
She wasn’t sure how long she was staring but he surprised her when he stood, apparently finished with his food. She pushed her plate away and smiled at him as he gestured for her to follow him. His large frightening dog stood as well, stepping between the two children, obviously protective of his master. She backed off a bit but continued to go where he lead, around this huge office building where she was a bit surprised they said nothing about two kids, one barefoot, and a large dog that looked as if it was something the Crocodile Hunter chased around. The boy, Colt, seemed to have full access to the place and pointed out objects of art in the building as well as the beautiful view out the huge glass windows.
The building was the headquarters of the Ashukhi Corporation she learned whose symbol seemed a mix of Oriental and Egyptian. It was beautiful though, just like everything and everyone she saw, even the man named Joseph who was weird looking. He reminded her of Marilyn Manson, only not ugly.
It seemed peaceful, she thought, to walk around the building in silence. She liked Colt she decided. He didn’t talk or ask her questions she didn’t want to think about. She could do without the mean dog, but at least he didn’t talk either.
Suddenly there was a commotion down a hall and a woman rushed up to Colt, bowing, which was pretty odd she thought. She wondered if he was royalty. She said there was someone here asking about him. Colt frowned but before he could do anything, a woman followed by two large men pushed their way through some businessmen to confront him. The woman bowed as well to him, confirming her royalty suspicion she thought.
The woman then spoke, “Blessed Quetzalcoatl, as you are the first of the Teomallki to survive the rebirth, it is my honor to return you to your home where you may bear the words of truth to our people as befits you as the Chaskimallki that you are.”
Colt stared at the woman for a moment. Then he looked at his dog. With a blur, boy and dog started to run in the opposite direction. Jaedyn only thought about her actions for a fraction of a second before running after them. This is great she thought, just like a movie.
