“There is a hole in your mind.”
Those words echoed through Macha’s head as she hurtled through the Umbra, her rival clutched tightly to her, refusing to let her go in peace. Those words spoken so long ago by that little upstart, the self titled ‘Master Tytalus the Strong’, had haunted her for centuries. They were the reason she took upon this guise, the role of Lord Tremere. If she did not know who she was, she reasoned, then none other would as well.
Yet the truth lie in her grasp now. Her half remembered youth as Macha, ancient Druidess, was becoming ever clearer. The Eye of Balor did this to her, so the answers she seeks will be found in the Eye. The connection between the Fomorians and her father did not escape her notice but that was a puzzle which had no solution now. Perhaps a clue to that could be gleaned in the Eye as well.
She could hear Kira talking but ignored it. The girl had clung to her as a leech but she had not the time nor the patience to deal with that now. Her mind was focused on what she saw within Nuada’s mind. She recalled his resistance and then her tearing through it as if it were nothing. Perhaps if he was fully possessed of his Tuath du Danu nature it might have been different, but fragmented as his brain was it posed little hindrance to her will.
Within his brain were recollections of green grass and bright sunlit days along with a smattering of names. Bres, Morrigan, Lugh, and others were drifting through his subconscious, his connection with them half remembered. But it was Balor that she sought, Balor of the Evil Eye, Balor once Lord of the Fomorians, but defeated by Lugh in ages past. She had dug through Nuada’s brains as his screams echoed through her head until she found what she was searching for. Buried deep was the sensation of Balor, his feel that she would need to track him wherever he might be now. He was not at the Last Battle of the War of Trees, so his location was fairly easy to deduce. His prison was so great that he never escaped, so still he was chained, an easy target.
And so Macha and her rival Kira burst through the darkened forests, heading towards the prison of the Last Fomorian, and if Macha had her way, his power would soon be hers.
