Sam and Jack - Upstairs, post-return

Jun 03, 2009 21:48

It took them a while to find Jack's room, in the end - too many distractions - but they got there eventually.

They've been there for some time now. Finally they're still, or close enough, breathing heavily and curled tight around each other in a shared warmth that's more than bodyheat.

Jack isn't sleeping.

He doesn't, much, although he still can, but tonight his brain's constantly ticking over and he stares thoughtfully at the ceiling. There's too much to process.

He is, however, lying considerately still, in case Sam wants to rest.

Sam isn't sleeping either, although he's sleepy by now: however still Jack might be, curled so close against him he can't be unaware of his wakefulness. After a while reaches up and across slightly, tracing his fingers through the other man's hair.

Softly, "You okay?"

Jack doesn't look down, but smiles lightly as ever.

The pause, however, is just a little too long before he replies.

"...Sure."

Sam lifts his head up a little to look at him.

"You're a terrible liar, Jack Harkness."

Jack sighs, and leans his head back against the wall.

"Only about things that don't matter."

You should see him on a mission! Lies aplenty!

"Still. Should work on that."

"Mmm." Sam kisses his cheek.

"Is it about what you asked before? When I got distracted by the annoying new hole in my back?"

"...Quite a lot of things," Jack says. "Really. Might take a few days to sort though these things."

Because it's all tangible problems, and not at all massive psychological issues. Nope.

Um.

Sam props his chin on his hand, looking up at Jack.

"Well, it's not like we're short on time."

Either of them.

Hopefully, "I don't suppose sex would help? Lots of sex, maybe. Just to be sure."

That or attempts to make Jack laugh. Sam can totally multi-task -- and anyway, Jack being so solemn and sad worries him. Jack is not meant to be melancholy, Sam considers. It doesn't suit him.

Sam has clearly not been around for a while, or he would - sadly - have become used to a melancholy Jack.

Jack does, however, laugh at this point. It's quiet, but something.

"Oh, don't worry, I don't exactly deprive myself."

Or, more precisely, Ianto doesn't. :D

"And it does."

It is not Sam's fault if Jack decides to get himself locked out of the bar and then be written poorly be all angsty about it.

"I plan on making sure you don't," Sam says firmly, "Just in case."

He nuzzles Jack's neck. "Missed you, drama queen."

"You're very kind," Jack says solemnly.

"...Did I make the spawn of evil joke already?"

One cannot become repetitive in one's quips, you understand.

"Probably," he answers, muffling a small yawn. "It hasn't stopped you before."

"Well, it is a classic."

He rubs a fond hand through Sam's hair.

"...Am I keeping you awake?"

Purrrr.

...Not that Sam adores being touched, and has missed Jack ridiculous amounts, or anything. Nope.

"Nah." He smiles. "You're just hard work."

Wink wink nudge nudge.

Jack's eyebrows perform a short acrobatic set.

"Well, I knew that."

Sam laughs.

"Yeah, but I say it better, right?"
