*nods* I was worried about repetitiveness as well, but I really wanted to show all the various degrees of Saga's 'malady', step by step - first the non-worrying symptoms, which Aiolos's presence seemed to keep at bay; then the worsening of Saga's condition, slow at first and then quicker with each chapter, the rising horror of his situation. That's why I risked to make chapter all a little alike. I wrote a similar enough tale, back when I first entered the LOTR fandom: it narrated Aragorn's slow and tortuous descend into love and madness. The pattern of the story worked well, even if it was definitely repetitive (something happened - he got worse - something happened - he got worse - something happened - he got worse). Yet, when I tried to turn the fiction into an original novel, the very repetitiveness which worked so well in the fiction (giving a brooding, deliciously eerie feel to the whole thing), destroyed the novel. How... odd. No ( ... )

Yup, *nod* does work for me at least. I can see where it'd work for Aragorn too. Maybe the reason it didn't work for the original novel is that people didn't know where it was going? This is fanfic after all. We're all expected to go in with at least some knowledge. The pacing ends up being different because it takes longer to know what the baseline for "normal" is. Without it, we don't know if the person's always like this because madness can be cyclical with better and worse days ( ... )

*nods* Yes, I definitely see the sense in what you say about readers not knowing the "background" of characters in original novels, which leads to a different pace between original and fiction. X3 ( ... )

Yai! Thanks! I'm really happy you like my view of things! I truly can't help but picture Saga feeling this complete, utter and mad love for Aiolos, which consumes him but at the same time makes him feel (keeps him?) alive. *__*
