So i babysat tonight, a real cutie...oh, so sweet. 11 months old. I like her parents, she's a dear (soooo cute!), it's all good.
But ice princess was on.
Now, having ice skated for 8+ years, (age 6-14) and loved it for fourteen+ years, I know ice skating fairly well. I can recognize jumps on sight, I know competition, I know the new scoring rules and the old ones, etc.
So I watched Ice Princess with the little girl I was sitting. I always kinda wanted to see it; seriously that main character had soooo much talent if she started skating and then got second at sectionals...or landed a triple at all.
But other than that, it was actually fairly accurate, except for the music thing. AGH! They had vocals to the music, and that, my dear, is a no-no unless you're doing artistic. But for that kind of competition--agh! NO NO NO NO! I quite nearly screamed at the TV then, except for the fac tI had an 11-month-old half-asleep in my lap. And I can't imagine Michelle Kwan showing up to a sectionals performance, but maybe...? Whatever.
And when Casey got new boots, I about died.
Me: "She's going to WEAR them? For the first time? During her LONG PROGRAM! Idiot!"
...
"Wait. If she gets first place, I'm going to turn off the TV."
But no. She was totally screwed, and her feet were a mess. I remember what my feet looked like every time I got new boots, and it really is that ugly, thankyouverymuch.
I was also uber-amused that she wore footed tights; I did not know a single serious skater who wore footed tights. And how every time someone fell, they were down for a good five or ten seconds. No. When you fall, you get up. Now. No matter how crappy you feel.
But that's Hollywood, I guess. Playing up the horror and getting things wrong. *sigh*
All in all, it was a decent movie. But still. I can't imagine anyone getting silver at sectionals after falling during their long program. Or at all. Unless everyone else sucked too.
So. Rant over. I got my homework done, watched two movies (I saw Bewitched as well; cute, but I liked the TV show better. It was still good, though), and got paid 25 bucks for my time (seven bucks an hour).
So. A night well-spent after all.
