Abilities
Character's Canon Abilities:

The following is credited in full to the D.Gray-Man Wikia website:

Lenalee's Innocence is a pair of boots known as the "Dark Boots" (黒い靴).

Her Innocence is the only known one to evolve, it is the first Crystal Type Anti-Akuma weapon in the series. it is shown that this type of innocence is bonded by ingesting it, after which it bonds with the users blood to form. This was shown when the innocence bonded to Lenalee's blood exited through cross shaped holes in her ankles to form the new boots.

Dark Boots: Equipment type:
Dark Boots Level 1

Lenalee's first version of the Dark Boots are an equipment type innocence that are usually worn as a pair of thigh high boots. When activated the top part of the boots unwrap to her knees and a green stripe is shown down her leg from the top to the bottom and a green Energy is emitted from her ankles. She is capable of great acrobatic feats and can easily deal with lvl 1 Akuma.

Enbu: Kirikaze (円舞「霧風」, Waltz: "Misty-Wind"): Lenalee stirs up a destructive tornado with a whirling kick of her Dark Boots.

Dark Boots Level Two:
Dark Boots Level 2

The Dark Boots also have the ability to go into a level 2 release. When released Lenalee gains more weight, power, speed and the green strips are replaced with a big circle with a cross mark on it. She can fight on par with a lvl 3 Akuma with her innocence in this form. Before her boots evolved her synchronization rate was 86%.

Onkyou no Tougi: Otokase (音響の踏技 「音枷」, lit. Stepping Skill of Sound: "Sound Shackles"): Lenalee becomes able to interface with sound waves, solidifying the sound of each step into a surface, which allows her to travel at the speed of sound.

Suijou no Tougi: Mizukase (水上の踏技 「水枷」, lit. Stepping Skill of Water: "Water Shackles"): Lenalee becomes able to interface with water, enabling her to walk on liquid surfaces.

Shittsui no Tougi: Tetsukase (失墜の踏技 「鉄枷」, lit. Falling Footwork: "Iron Shackles"): Upon maximum invocation, Lenalee's power condenses onto her Dark Boots, meshing them into a morass of blades, carrying an extremely high weight. Assisted by Eshi's gravity shackles, this attack hit with the weight of 40,000 metric tons. Which is equivalent to a meteor.

Crystal Type:
Crystal Type

As a crystal type the Dark Boots innocence now resides within Lenalee and is activated and used by emotion rather than commands. The boots themselves do not appear when inactive, instead appearing as two bangles around each ankle and a scar of a cross on each leg. She gains a massive increase in speed and power and can fight on par with a lvl 4 Akuma.

( as a reference, the point in canon Lenalee is coming from, her Dark Boots have already evolved into her Crystal Type weapon. )

Weapons: Sure, if you read the above. If you skipped to this part? SHAME ON YOU. :c A weapon that's the first of the exorcists' kind, too!

History/Personality/Plans/etc.
Character History: wikipedia. & more.

Point in Canon: Chapter 184: Neogyps.

Character Personality:

A girl who’s been thrown into the soup of life known as Hurry It Up And Grow Up. Yes, that soup. The one that leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. Childhood has to be skipped, and childhood, after all, is essential.

Now, don’t misunderstand. Lenalee, being a girl her age, has proven to be completely capable of, perhaps, things of immaturity. Snubbing people, for one, until they gather of their own accord they’ve upset her. At least, when we meet her, or shortly there after, at any rate. We are lucky, I think, in that we get to watch this determined young lady grow up into an even more lovely, charismatic, and strong woman. In only, what can be assumed, a few months or a little more, too. With the support and help of friends ( Allen, especially. ) and with her own steadfast will, we watch a strong person become even stronger.

And even earlier on, despite the occasional tendency to remind us through action that she is still only sixteen, we can gather a sense of intelligence, drive, and ‘young lady’ rather than ‘little girl’ from her. Perhaps, it goes without saying that the things of her past have, undoubtedly, formed her into the person she becomes. From witnessing her parents death as young as three, to being forcibly removed from her raison d'être ( older brother Komui ) by the, still young, age of six, and living for three years in a constant, mental desperation for escape. Even if it meant taking her own life. Anything would be better than living without Komui, back then.

Even when those siblings are returned to each other, we cannot say completely that the remainder of Lenalee’s childhood was a happy one. Oh, certainly, it had improved a great deal. Komui was there and her will for life had been restored. She had been reunited with a reason to breathe, function as normally as she could, and fight again. Still, at only nine she was to become something of a child of war. Even being that small, she would bid ‘take cares’ to big brother, and be escorted by Finders to battle akuma and search for Innocence. There were times she would return home and, as may easily be guessed, be in need of medical attention. Often, she returned with or to a great number dead. To always be surrounded by that kind of life, day in and day out. It rushes a girl to hold people close in her heart and mind and be as determined as anything to protect them. It forces her to grow up too quickly.

Compassion has been Lenalee’s constant. The sore thumb of her attributes. She presents it to us, to those around her, by making it a point to welcome everyone who enters the Black Order. Without any doubt, we can tell that Komui, Allen, Kanda, and Lavi are those closest to her. Although, it is likely fair to say she has something of a connection, small or not, with each member. In taking it upon herself to tend to others - bringing Komui and the science group coffee or asking if they’re getting plenty of rest and eating right, for instance - she displays that compassion, what sits at the core of her.

Of course, she isn’t a diamond. A smudged one, maybe; certainly not a piece of coal. She is not only a person of high emotional intelligence and self-confidence. In fact, it’s safe to say the latter may be lacking. It is transparent that she worries about not being able to do enough for those she cherishes most, of being useless or, even worse - a burden to them. Not to say that she is only plagued by self-doubting. A self-confident person, however, does not need constant assurance. Whether it’s through trying to encourage them selves, or hearing it through friends. Allen has had to, in more than one occasion, bring Lenalee back up when she begins to doubt. Even Kanda, in his own begrudging way, admits that he finds her strong.

She definitely worries about keeping up with the boys, who despite having more of a tendency than Lenalee to bicker and fight among themselves, can come off as more fit or able than she is. It’s definitely a case of not being entirely sure of herself, even if she won’t admit it aloud. Lenalee, without question, can kick ass and take names just as well as the rest of them. ‘One of the boys’, perhaps, without losing any of her feminine allure.

Hypocritical. Let’s not forget about that. She does not believe in - or rather, she despises the idea of self-sacrifice. That’s proven by her stopping Allen from throwing himself straight into a self-destructing akuma. Even through what he has to endure from her afterward ( silent treatments aren’t always an easy thing to get through, after all! ), and the things said to him. Allen, by that point, was a piece of her ‘world’ and what a selfish act to nearly kill himself and shake that up.

Still, when it comes to defeating a level 3 Akuma - before her Innocence has evolved to crystal type - Lenalee is more than willing to set her own life on the line. After breaking free from a few days or more worth of sullen, lacking spirit ( a cause of discovering Suman had fallen into Fault ), Lenalee returns to us with a seemingly endless amount of will power. She will do whatever it takes to defeat the akuma, and in that, she proves that she is not a perfect thing.

When she loses her Innocence for a period of time, she is left in a constant frustrated and unsure state. She needs help moving through some of it, as her legs won’t always react to what her head tells them. Allen, of course, is the one to almost constantly lead her by the hand. When she fumbles mentally, he’s the one to prop her back up. Much later, when Malcom Leverier comes to stay for a time within the order, we witness Lenalee shrink into herself driven by traumatic reminders. Perhaps, surprisingly, it is not Allen who she seeks out during this time - it’s Kanda. She admits to him that ever since they were small, when she had been scared, she’s always been able to go and sit with him. Again, we can see that she isn’t always sure of herself. Although, their may be something brave in that, of all people, it’s the quick tempered Kanda she chooses to try and set herself at ease in the presence of.

Lenalee goes for sometime with no Innocence. We know this, for her, is upsetting - despite an admitted hatred for Innocence and God - because it makes her exactly the thing she does not want to become. Useless. However, her attachments, her ‘world’ ( which is not the planet, or a thing you see on a map, but the people who make up her day-to-day life ), drives her to plead God for her Innocence back. She admits that she’s always hated it, but she’s found a reason to want to it. She wants it more than anything, now, and it’s restored to her. Through the effort, I think it’s plain to see that in many ways she’s matured.

Additionally, I think it is important to take note of Lenalee's femininity and intelligence, even if neither may be the most noteworthy pieces to her. Lenalee has spent most of her life growing up around a majority of males, most older than herself. Even the person who taught her etiquette and how to behave like a lady was a man. She has had a vast amount of male influence, and yet, she's managed to grow up into a lovely thing rather than some sort of abrasive brute. We never see the exorcists study or attend a sort of home school, but we still get a sense of intelligence from her. A hint at it is that Lenalee can fluently speak English, in addition to her native tongue of Chinese. Admitting that is a little silly, you say? Yes, well, English is the hardest language to learn after all. Since it's assumed that the Black Order is settled somewhere in Europe, English is it's primary language. Imagine, being a child, of only six or so and having to learn a new language suddenly and perhaps with little or no help at all.

A girl with an outwardly cheerful disposition, Lenalee - as you may have come to tell by now - is a girl who harbors intense doubts and worries. She’s driven to walk upright, but has tripped countless times along the way. She has been fortunate, and lucky, in that there’s always been someone to remind her, Hey. You’re Doing A Good Job At Being You.

Character Plans:

Like many others who have come to Siren’s Port, Lenalee will be interested in finding a way to get back to where she belongs. This will not, however, be her primary focus. Lenalee’s nature will keep most of her thoughts, hopes, and wishes tacked onto the people she comes into contact with. Whether it’s other exorcists - Allen, Kanda, or Lavi, for example. Or, the people she meets and grows to care for while she’s here.

I don’t think it should be forgotten that it is of great importance to Lenalee that the people who become apart of her life - or, her theirs - feel welcome in her presence. Her ‘world’ expands by the friends she makes, in a matter of speaking. Now, that isn’t to say she will be able to settle completely and everything will just be a bucket of sunshine for her. No, no. Not at all. Her brother, who means everything to her, and the other exorcists are back home fighting a great, horrible war. If anything, her mind and heart will be half with them, and half with those here.

CR, I think, will be especially important for Lenalee. No, Siren’s Port is not the Black Order. No, the people she meets will not be exorcists. Before too long, you see, Lenalee will come to realize that this place is something of a ‘temporary new home’. And, of course, from the get-go it will be clear that Siren’s Port isn’t exactly the most welcoming place. In a sense, this will keep Lenalee in her habit of trying to help people feel welcome, or at least, if they need something ( an ear, perhaps? ) they can come to her. All this taken into account, I believe there may be a very good chance she’ll take up a job as a Greeter.

Right now, I’m still mulling over the idea of her joining up with one of the teams that keep watch during the nights. She’s clearly more than able, but she’s still human and I don’t want her to overexert herself, by any means. ( Although, she falls into the tendency to do that pretty hard all on her own, anyway. ) Something like this may end up depending on how things go. It’s a consideration, at least. I do know, with absolute certainty, that she will be getting a part time job and she will be interested in going to school if she’s able.

While I’m sure in some of her down time, there were people at the order who were able to teach her things-I would like for her to attend school because it would be something she hasn’t experienced. Because of the way she is, I’m sure she would enjoy it. In relation to that, I hope to allow her to be apart of other things she’s missed out on growing up. It’s only a thought for now, but she may take up dance lessons or other feminine hobbies.

Finally, I know that if she becomes aware of the Rebellion group she will be keenly interested in joining up with them. Lenalee is going to detest both SERO and AGI. Especially, SERO, considering everything she witnessed - or was submitted to herself - as a child.

I guess, some hopes for this girl are clearer than others, but it’s a start?

One foot on this side of the mirror, and one on the other: this is how most stand. Lenalee Lee is not exempt. Perhaps, for her, the statement holds especially true.

Lenalee tries to think of a time before. A time so pure and newborn, before her trip through that topsy-turvy mirror. When her knowledge of nightmares was less than peripheral, borderline nonexistent. Mostly, she remembers it by scents and sensations.

Soymilk, peaches, camellia, fireworks, white pine, and moon cakes.

Palms, heartbeats, a dog’s tongue, fish scales, duck feathers, and what must be a mother’s lips.

Syrup coated flakes of something on her tongue. Cricket violinists in her ears. Laughter and, ‘higher, brother, higher’ - kaleidoscope kites in a Sky Back Then.

Sometimes, her eyes close, and she concentrates very hard on remembering faces. A face, a face, a face - anyone’s face. None come. Not really. She makes them up. Mother’s humble and empress-esque. Father’s broad and strong. Maybe mother also loved cake. Maybe father was inventive and quirky. They all laughed; she doesn’t make that up. They all laughed, the four of them.

In her time through the looking glass, in her time watering hatred for binds and hands larger and stronger than her own, she tried to cling to Komui’s face.

Back then, her eyelashes were always wet. Or, in contrast, very dry. They became heavy and sand-like with the effort she put into staring at ceilings and light fixtures and little spider egg sacks. The effort she made to tune out words, and new, painful sensations. Her eyes became dull little carving knives, etching older brother’s face into the woodwork.

‘Brother. You look very tired,’ is what she remembers thinking when, for the first time in three years, she saw it hovering over her bedside. Right there, within hand’s reach, constructed of bone and flesh and warmth. Not wood, or steel, or brick, or dry wall. A real face; aged and tired, but beautiful. Then - then - she was aware of the cupped fingers on the back of her head, the way his eyes looked as though they might drown, and the way he smiled so widely, so, so widely. She became aware of just how small her own hand was, for the thousandth or so time, but this time it was different. Different in the way that she did not want to shrink it into a fist, and reel it in at the elbow. It staid, she wanted it to stay; a little egg nestled in its nest.

Is it possible to be born twice? She wonders, sometimes. That day had made her a phoenix, hadn’t it? A phoenix by age nine, shaking the soot and ash from her down feathers. On that day, she came up for air, and gulped, and gulped.

Relief, might be the best way to sum up Komui’s expression on that phoenix day. Relief and thankfulness. Although, she’s never been told, she imagines someone in the Order had informed him of her recklessness. Maybe bandages and intravenous therapies had clued him in. Without having to speak it, he told her how precious she was. And it was then she knew with no doubt or question in her heart, that she must keep her feet firmly on the ground and her will unmoved for him.

Oh, that mirror. Where front things are backward and backward things front. It stands expectantly, it picks at her with quiet fingers. Only one foot is out, half the body, but her hand is firmly in Komui’s. His face is plush and his cheekbones hard. And that is enough, she realizes, to keep her here. That is enough. Even now, more have been added. Faces - reminders - that she can't let this life waste her away all over again.

That’s right. Let this place - this Siren’s Port, Canada - push intently on her nerves. Let it remind her of the Other Side. Let it try her patience and her will. Challenges are worth facing, after all. Let it pester and bite.

She isn’t going anywhere. Even now, she trips a lot less.
