The Annual List (2009 edition)

Dec 31, 2009 16:52

Wow, I haven't posted much since I last did this. Ah well, that's blogging for you.
Thoughts on the year. All up an extremely average year. There were some definite highlights, and some definite things I could have done without. But here we are, still alive. No expectations for next year/decade.

Anyway... the year in review:

1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
- Go to JB HiFi without spending any money.

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
- I said I wouldn't bother, and I didn't. Only difference was I'm not stuck trying to think of something I failed at. So it's a plus!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
- A few people I was at school with. Other than that no.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
- Leopold very suddenly in October. Then Trinket went a few weeks later. And then finding Neighbour Cat as well.

5. What countries did you visit?
- Just this one.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you didn't have in 2009?
- The usual. A new title for my Arabian Nights adaptation would be good. Maybe a sense that my life is actually going somewhere.

7. What date(s) from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
- Specific dates? None. Events? Losing two cats in quick succession. Going to Avenue Q. Mum going into hospital. The BOO! premier. That'd be it really.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
- BOO! being such a big hit.

9. What was your biggest failure?
- Putting so much effort into a girl who said she wanted a nice guy like me and not some muscley drunk surfy guy who'd just treat her badly like the last few... and then she jumped straight into bed with the first muscley drunk surfy guy she could find. Giving up on her forever.

10. Did you suffer any illness or injury?
- Nope. A few aches and pains, but nothing memorable.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
- The Writers Tale (Russell T Davies), Ninja Town (Nintendo DS), boat shoes... nothing else springs to mind right now.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
- The crowd who pulled that kid out of the locked, hot car, baking in the sun for 20 minutes when his mum couldn't be bothered to take him with her when she went shopping, and then stayed with the kid, called the police and waited till the mother came back so they can could yell at her.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
- The mother in the above example. Bitch finally turned up, having been out shopping and chatting with her friends. When she saw what had happened as a result of her neglect she tried playing the victim ('Oh why is everyone being so mean to me? I'm feeling unhappy now! I'm entitled to go shopping and sit down to have a coffee!'). Then she talked about suing over the damage to her car (they'd had to break a window to get the kid out before he died). She's been charged, could face a fine of over $20,000 and might even have the kid taken away from her. Selfish bitch.

14. Where did most of your money go?
- Books, DVDs, miniatures (with the situation at the Hobby Centre how could I not?)

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
- The trailer for the new TRON movie! Timothy Dalton appearing on Doctor Who. Being reunited with some old friends after a very long time. Meeting Michala Banas (hooooooooooot!)

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
- Ummm... even more of a dud than last year really. Why does music suck so much these days?

17. Are you:
i. happier or sadder?
- About the same.

ii. thinner or fatter?
- Thinner still. Noticeably in smaller sizes.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
- Written. and some other things.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
- Trying to get anywhere with women who are just wasting my time.

20. How did you spend Christmas?
- Same as usual. People over for christmas eve, but no grandparents this time. Grandpa was recovering from hip surgery so they couldn't make the trip.

21. Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
- No one really.

22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
- Sort of fell back in a little bit with someone from long ago. Don't what's going on there though. Hey I never do. That part of my brain just doesn't work. Unless you count meeting Michala... but then everybody falls in love with her.

23. How many one-night stands?
- None. Been so fucking long my fun zone's got cobwebs and rust.

24. What was your favorite TV program? New stuff?
- Usual mix of the Doc, the works of Seth McFarlane and so on. Enjoyed QL though. And Lie to Me was good.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
- Only people who are in favour of hurting cats. If you want to hurt cats then you're in favour of animal cruelty and you are a terrible person who shouldn't be allowed out of prison.

26. What was the best book you read?
- Been a lot of false starts actually. The Writer's Tale by Russell T Davies was bloody good though. And Hack/Slash is a good read. The Legend of Sigmar Trilogy (Warhammer novels) by Graham McNeill is pretty decent so far. There's a couple I'm working on which have promise.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
- Yeah, another fairly dud year. Kate Miller Heidki is good though.

28. What did you want and get?
- New printer, new chair, The War Games (it was even better than I expected), the First and Second Doctor figures, some damn cool minis

29. What did you want and not get?
- Nothing really. I'm quite well served in that area.

30. What were your favorite films of this year?
- District 9, Star Trek, Fanboys

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
- 30. Nothing really. Some people insisted I have a huge party, but I wanted to keep it quiet. Dad was away so we didn't do much anyway. Went out for dinner I think.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
- The usual.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
- Whatever I likes, I wears. But I don't like wearing the same colour all the way through unless it's a suit.

34. What kept you sane?
- Same old.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
- Michala Banas (obviously), Lucy Pinder, Keeley Hazell (and the usuals: Myf, Felicity, etc)

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
- Tony Abbot being the biggest cockspank in Australian political history. Racist, corporate puppet, fights against child safety, education, health care, etc, wants to take the vote away from anyone who isn't a heterosexual male Catholic, and represents all the worst things about his party.

37. Who did you miss?
- Nobody new.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
- Probably Robyn, Kell and Steph

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
- Ask her out once. If she doesn't get the hint, try again later. If she still gives you the same result, give up. She's just wasting your time. And if she keeps going on about how there's no decent men around, it's because she doesn't deserve one.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
- I don't give a hoot about what you think.
