Ben makes a great point here about CNN. But is CNN to blame? No.
People are oblivious to the world around them. Thats the problem. The cause? This is going to surprise you but my answer is the military.
The military of our great nation is the reason people care mor about Britney Spears and Paris Hilton than they do about terrorists, Iraq, social security, tax systems, and the presidential election. The military is the reason people will listen to celebrities about political issues.
The reason is simply. Our military is so bad-ass that they buffer us from any outside influence. The military is responsible for the cushy lives we live. If you look back at the last 100 years in this country what do you think is the best time for us? If you ask me its the 50's and 60's till the hippies came around. The reason is simple. People knew what it was like to have to deal with an enemy. They were vets from WWII. People who weren't vets knew sacrifice through rationing and war bonds.
Today we are fighting a war against terrorists that want to end our way of life. That should be the biggest news every day. But we are fighting it with a volunteer military. There is current;y no draft. No one who is there has been forced to go. Only a few thousand families have been really affected by it. Because of this people can go on worrying whether or not Lindsay Lohan is going to jail over her latest debacle
