Actually started a little bit of revision today. W00t! Got slightly overwhelmed by the amount of material to try and encode into my brain, but there's not point in freaking about it. Just need to get it done

I wish you and your byootiful bookcase much joy :)
I've never had the urge to shelve my books alpahabetically. Mine's an idiosyncratic system based on how the books fit my mood, who's currently on my reading list - and size of book. Explains why I can never find the book I want after a fad of re-ordering *g*
but! but! but! what about non-fiction books? board books? do you shelve the children's novels with the adult novels? that would create some really weird combinations....
...oh, wait, I forgot, I'm the only dork in the world that buys herself picture books and the like. :)
Selected non-fiction is shelved under author name amongst the general book population. Reference books have their own shelf. Most of P's non-fiction have their own bookcase and are shelved according to genre - Manuals (police)/Crime theory, Martial arts, Maps, Marathons and Mountains *g*
The children have their own bookcases in their bedrooms and all of their books are there. Apart from the Harry Potters, which were mine first and therefore downstairs. Tis madness, but there's method in it.
I have the fortunate excuse of buying picture books and pretending they are for the children. *g*
yeah, I do a mix of "ok, picture books go here because they are tall" and "art books go here because they are too" and then "politics goes here, those are always no bigger than this" etc. and then a mixture of grouping by sugject/genre and then alphabatizing within that.
I also go through and rearrange by books when I'm in the mood need to procrastinate.
