Criminal Minds 4 x 08 Masterpiece

I haven't rewatched this and I'm not sure I'm going to just yet. The terrified six year olds hit too many buttons for me and I found it very difficult viewing.
I found it hard to take the unsub seriously in those interrogation scenes when his bizarre evil hair was so distracting. And the plot itself was little bit silly, something which seems to be a pattern in Ed Bernero's episodes - The Fisher King 1&2, Mayhem and now this one. It makes his unsubs like Wile E Coyote with convoluted Acme Corporation schemes that rely far too heavily on other people acting in a very particular way in order to reach the end result. It doesn't work and it distracts from the rest of the really good stuff.
I didn't like Rossi's gloating at the end either. I've quite liked him as time has gone on and I like his tenacity and how he isn't Gideon, but the relish with which he talked about Henry's execution made me uncomfortable. I'm hoping it means that they are going to challenge his ego at some point.
There were bits that I liked - Reid's joke, the maths, Emily reaching out to Jordan Todd and of course, Hotch's comic timing. Reid's comment - "I never have any normal fans" made me laugh out loud as well.
