NyanType Magazine 1
Megami Magazine, you've got competition. Enter NyanType Magazine, the new NewType Magazine spin-off that aims to compete against Megami by providing tons of posters featuring anime girls. I saw this first issue, the June 2009 issue, while browsing through the Exhibit Hall at ACen this past weekend. When I saw it, I knew I had to have it. After all, I've been subscribing to Megami for years now. I had to see what the new kid in town has to offer. & I must say, it's pretty good.
The cover for the first issue is of Nanoha, which makes sense (regardless of my feelings for her series) considering this issue features news on the new movie & it also contains the new manga sequel 4th series. Unfortunately, unlike Megami, NyanType didn't have a giant pullout poster. Whether if that was only because this is the first issue & later ones will have it, or if the mag just wont have it at all, remains to be seen. It did however have the double-sided "long poster," which used to be a staple for Megami but recently has been more on again - off again. & both sides were of Haruhi! Pretty weird to include a series that isn't airing new episodes on TV or DVD... that is unless new episodes ARE about to air. One side features a wet Haruhi (drool) & the other side has the three SOS girls in bed together (drool again):
The rest of the issue featured many good posters as well, including current new NebsTV series K-On, Queen's Blade, Tears to Tiara, & Valkyria Chronicles. Plus a pretty funny Strike Witches drawing, & some nicely ecchi posters of Gurren Lagann, Saki, Kodomo no Jikan, & Kiss x Sis. Which brings up our next point: is NyanType more ecchi than Megami?
As you may not know, Megami isn't as ecchi as it used to be. Back when I first started subscribing, nudity was pretty common in the magazine. The back of every issue even included several pages talking about the newest hentai titles & adult video games, with unedited screencaps & all. But for some reason a few years back, Megami began to censor their nudity. Nipples can't be shown at all anymore. The hentai/adult games section in the back now had to censor its pics, & over time fewer & fewer pages were devoted to it. Now, the section is gone altogether.
So how about NyanType? Well, the back of the issue has a small piece on the new Koihime OVA, & the piece does contain uncensored nipples. Score one for NyanType! But to add some confusion to this, a Queen's Blade article towards the beginning of the issue has the girls' nipples covered by hearts. So how come nipples are good for one title but not another? Were the Koihime nipples a mistake? Hard to say. But NyanType does contain some pretty raunchy stuff, even if you can't really see any goods. An article for Kiss x Sis gets pretty graphic, & you probably can't tell by the photo I took of it below, but the KxS poster really pushes the limits (all I'll say is: extremely noticeable moistness down under). So it seems that NyanType is a little more ecchi than Megami, but not as much as Megami was back in its prime. Well anyway, here are highlights of some of the other posters in this premiere issue:
