Best Buy Anime Reductions Confirmed

Feb 21, 2009 21:07

Earlier it was reported that Best Buy had planned to drastically reduce the amount of anime DVDs in many of its stores, & this week the electronics chain giant confirmed it with all the details. Of their current 1000 stores in the US, only about 200 stores will still carry the same large amount of anime that they currently do. These 200 are where anime sales are the greatest. A few hundred others will have their selection reduced, but not greatly. However, half of all their stores will have their anime selection reduced to only the top 20 best selling A-list titles. So basically instead of an anime DVD aisle, they'll get an anime DVD shelf.

A complete list of the ~500 stores that will be drastically reducing their selection has been posted online. & while it sucks that anime isn't doing well for them, the good part about that is from March 1st to 21st, they'll be selling their anime DVDs at 50% off in order to clear them out. For me, the good news/bad news is that the two Best Buys closest to me aren't on the list. Good because that means anime's been selling decently well around here, but bad because I can't go on a 50% shopping spree at them. But there are two other Best Buys in my area that are on the list, so I'll be hitting them both come the first week of March. See if your store is on the list here:
