Fatina's just synonymous with tentacle rape, isn't she? Though after the second episode of Sword, she's no doubt gonna hold a high association with "spooning" as well... how much of it will actually be official, I'll wait and see. XD
I finally got around to watching Nanoha just a few weeks ago, and Nanoha A's not long afterwards (still need to see StrikerS). I liked it personally... concerning the characters, Fate is definitely jailbait material (though, I guess StrikerS changed that), but that aside, she's a pretty awesome character and I could see her popularity being a bit justified (if possibly a tad blown out of proportion, admittedly... I mean, a blonde loli witch resembling an embodiment of Death while wielding a militaristicly English-speaking laser scythe is awesome and all, but when you're topping characters like Konata... yeah).
I liked the titular Nanoha as well... not as much, but she was still cool (and I can see why 4chan refers to her as "GAR-moe" XD). Hayate's popularity I don't get at all, though... she came off as being rather Mary Sueish to me. The German-speaking book was kinda nifty, but it doesn't help that she only had it temporarily and all of the Wolkenritter (except the dog) have German-speaking weapons as well (for that matter, practically all of the Wolkenritter were fucking awesome characters, so it's a shame that Hayate shows up on that list and they're nowhere in sight). Maybe she got better in StrikerS, but somehow, I suspect the contrary. -Yamato
Really? I did wonder if you were even familiar with the series... I would say something about hating something overhyped without even giving it a try yourself, but that'd make me out to be a hypocrite since Harry Potter always pissed me off. ^^'
But if you're willing to try it out, that's cool too. I have to say, as a magical girl series, it really didn't integrate the whole "girl has to lead a normal life" bit as well as others (hell, all those elements are simply swept under the rug about halfway in, you could practically forget that this 8-year old girl even has a family), but I really love how one minute, it looks like it's gonna go an episodic route, and the next minute, there're epic battles with power levels OVER 900,000!!! (I'm quite serious, BTW... in a one-off comment, Nanoha and Fate had magic power readings topping a million).
Also, from what I hear, it's a spin-off of the Triangle Hearts game series, so if you're into standard erogee-style character designs (I sure as hell am ^^), keep in mind that Nanoha has them. -Yamato
