December saw
a lot of problems for the English version of the Yu-Gi-Oh trading card games. & despite it seemed that all the legal issues were all solved, the month of January only saw things get worse.
Two weeks after courts ruled that Upper Deck still had the rights to distribute the card game in America, UD announced that they wouldn't be releasing the Yu-Gi-Oh Championship Packs to hobby tournament stores. The reason being because Konami Digital Entertainment terminated its distribution deal with Upper Deck anyway, claiming that they were now the only authorized distributor for the cards. Upper Deck then confirmed as much when they said they wouldn't be distributing the next Crimson Crisis booster series. After that announcement, Konami confirmed that they would be releasing it instead, as well as the new Yusei Duelist Pack.
But wait, things got even muddier after that. Konami then filed a suit against Upper Deck that they were the ones responsible for creating those counterfeit Yu-Gi-Oh cards that were previously reported on. UD then followed suit, calling the claim an "absurd allegation" & denying their involvement & claiming legal advantage. That's all we know for now. To be continued?
