With the announcement of a
new Afro Samurai anime, talk has once again begun on a live-action movie adaptation for the franchise. Back in 2006 when the Afro Samurai anime was still in development, it was announced at Comic-Con that there was a live-action version in the works as well, which would also star Samuel L Jackson & involve Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins, the Dark Knight) as well.
Now, during an interview with MTV, talks about the proposed movie from 2 years ago came up again. Jackson said it's still in the works, but felt he was too old to take on the live-action role of the title character as he does for the anime. Rather, he pictures someone young like Andre 3000 (OutKast, Class of 3000) taking over the role. A few key quotes from the interview:
“Hopefully, that script will come together and we’ll be able to do that in the next two years or so.”
“I’ll be the dead father. I’ll show up in some spiritual scenes, and give him some guidance. We’ll find some young guy that is capable of doing all those things and make it really cool.”
