Yen Plus Out Today

Just a friendly reminder that the first issue of Yen Plus, the new English manga anthology magazine from Yen Press, is now in stores! For the first time in a long while, Shonen Jump finally has some competition going for them (& Shojo Beat too, I guess). As previously reported, subscription services weren't available in time for the first issue, but if you pick up the issue I'm sure you'll find plenty of those little postcards to mail in to subscribe.

I'm going to try to track done the magazine sometime this week hopefully, so maybe then I'll jot down some of my impressions on the premier issue. Until then, Yen Press posted both covers of it sometime ago on their website. There's two covers because the magazine reads 2 ways: right-to-left for Japanese manga, & left-to-right for the OEL stuff. For the longest time Shonen Jump printed their cover on both sides of the magazine even though there was no lef-to-right content, but this was probably done because they didn't want to scare consumers away who were new to the idea of reading manga the right way. Of course now they've added big adds to the "back" cover instead, either because they're confident enough that they don't need to double up anymore, or because they realized they could make good money off it. Probably a little of both.
