Toei Launches Digimon, PreCure Online

As has been expected for sometime now, Toei Animation has officially added Digimon Adventure 02 & Pretty Cure to their OnDemand downloadable lineup. The first 15 episodes of Digimon 02 & the first 2 episodes have PreCure are the first of both series to be added. hey, I just thought of something: do you think they may be using "Digidestined" in the subtitles because, in a later episode, an Australian kid says it in plain English?

Personally, I never really understood why the English dub had to lengthen the names in the first place... I mean, if some Japanese tweens who barely understand the language at all don't have a problem with the word-shortening, I don't see the need to dumb it down for native speakers of the same age. Also, the English dub was inconsistent with naming a lot of times... combine this with Bandai of America's localizations of the video games and card games (which also tended to have inconsistent names), and you've got the materials necessary for pure chaos. Makes me wonder how many times the names will change throughout these subs. -Yamato

You know, I forgot all about that. I don't think that's the reason though, but I believe they both stem from the same idea. Toei associates the term DigiDestined & other such dub terms with the American dub of Digimon. Since these terms are so widely recognized to the English speaking fans, they felt it'd be best to keep them.
